second A/C in deep South Texas

Just bought a new Jay Feather 27BHB. I'm asking if I will need the second ac? I am a HVAC contractor so I do need mechanical ac information just asking if anyone has the same trailer and ended up adding a second ac. Although I know air conditioning I'm not familiar with rv ac brands. I know it will obviously help with the addition of a second but is it absolutely necessary to have in 100 degree climates? Sales manager said not needed but I'm skeptical. Can anyone tell me what the best brand is for travel trailers?
Thanks
Bruce

Do you have the 50 amp service and 2nd a/c prep? If not it will take some extra "engineering" to get power to the trailer and the 2nd a/c. If you do have that option it will be an easy install. Dometic and Coleman are normally the two industry stalwarts, but GE is also now in the RV a/c business so that might be one to look at.

I have a 284BHS with one AC. Most of the time we are alright in south Georgia but there are times when a second AC would have been nice. I did add the RV Airflow system to my AC and it helped out amazingly. I would start there for $200 its worth it. As said above without a 50 Amp service and second AC prep there will be some leg work to get power to the unit.

Yes made sure I purchased the second ac option. It’s 50 amp and I can install easily. Just wanting to know if it’s really needed.

I would start with the RV Airflow system installed on the existing unit and see if thats enough. Then if not you can always add the second unit.

I live in just outside San Antonio. Living down here in S. Texas: I do recommend a second AC. There are times when it is not needed (Nov-Feb) However, the rest of the time a second AC is highly recommend. My personal experience.

Our first trailer did not have a second AC. It was the first thing we ensured was added to our second trailer. If you plan on doing any traveling in southern NM or AZ the second AC is also recommend.

I live in Arizona, have a 50amp trailer prepped for a second AC. After the first 3 summers I was ready to spend the bucks and buy a second AC. Then I read about RV Airflow and took a chance and installed one. It made such a great improvement that it saved me spending money on a second AC.

This past summer we traveled through NM, Texas, and southern Arizona and were always comfortable inside the RV.

I did make other improvements to the AC system such as sealing all the leaks in the ducting and making sure every outlet in the ceiling was properly installed...3 out out the 5 were not.

We no longer have the need for a second AC.

You'll be glad you did..."one is none and two is one". Nothing worse than your "one a/c" crapping out on that 100° day.

Greetings. I live in the next town over from you. We have a 265RLS with a single unit. I did the ducting mod and we seem to be very comfortable with airflow and temp. Maybe in our extreme heat will blneed a fan. Having a second unit would be n8 e but I do not see us upgrading. Locally we camp at Arroyo City and Pt Mansfield. We travel to Gonzalez to see fam. All these locations seem to work with one unit. Good luck.

Twenty years in McAllen and never felt the need for a second AC. Honestly, trying it for a summer before cutting holes. You may also try a small window unit if you feel the need for a little more.

Temporary to see if it's necessary. Then a permanent solution.

Search the posts on mini split unit installation in RV. There are some good alternative options there.
