Second A/C install

Hello, I have a 2021 Jayco Jay Flight 28BHBE and it is prewired in the bed room for a second A/C unit. If it had a vent I believe it would be very easy install. My problem is where exactly do you cut the hole so the A/C will go in and the wires be there to wire it up. Second is does the vented air duct reach that area so I can use a ducted A/C or do I have to get a Ductless one. I do not have anywhere in camper that says prewired for thermostat but I have seen some A/C units that have the thermostat made on the unit so if I can use a ducted one I had much rather use it to help overall cool entire camper. I have no problem cutting the hole, no problem wiring, just dont know where I should measure from or to to mark the hole. Please help

Does yours have a plastic, outlet style plate in the ceiling? Mine did.

I never got around to installing that 2nd AC, but my BHBE had the 2nd AC Prep option. My plan was to take that plate down as a starting point. Then I would cut along the ceiling until I got to the framework, then cut out the rest of the opening in the ceiling along the frame. Then I was going to drill a hole up through the roof deck, through the roof membrane, at each corner of the frame-out. Up on the roof, run a utility knife in an "X" between all 4 holes. Then cut out the roof decking for the hole. Fold the cut pieces of the roof membrane neatly into the hole and staple it to the frame. Then install the AC unit.

IDK if it's wired for a separate T-stat. But I would imagine you'll see the wires for it up there. Then you just have to figure out where those wires terminate in the wall.

I'd call Jayco and see if they can give you some kind of schematic?

No, all mine has in the ceiling is a sticker saying it is A/C prep. Wish it has a vent in it be easy then, but no just a sticker on mine. I have not pulled sticker off, which is a small sticker, how big of a plastic cover does yours have on it?

Mine looked like a standard household 110V AC outlet, but with a "blank" in it where the plugs would be. It had a sticker on THAT that said "2nd AC Prep".

I would first try to remove the sticker and see if there's maybe a hole underneath? The actual sticker on mine was pretty small, so I doubt you'll see a hole there that you wouldn't be able to see with the sticker in place.

But beyond that, I'd call Jayco and get a roof schematic and start measuring.

The sticker PROBABLY is the starting point, but my luck isn't that good. If it were my rig, I would end up assuming that was an "X marks the spot" and punch a hole, and it'd be in the totally wrong place!!

Also, I wondered if it would connect to the ducts. Where the duct outlets were in that rig, it would make sense (again, inserting logic where logic may have NO business!), but you just won't know for sure until you open up the ceiling.

Call or E-mail Jayco with you VIN and Serial number and they will E-mail you the drawing for your trailer showing the opening for the second AC. Do you have a breaker all ready installed in your electrical panel labeled 2nd AC? Do you have 50amp power?

They sent me the drawing of the roof, the duct work, and measurements, but just black and white picture, I have no idea where they are measuring from or anything else. Yes I have a 20 AMP breaker that says 2nd A/C but it also runs something else, cant recall what it said now, yes I am on 50amp power

The blueprint drawings I received showed measurements in inches, measured from the rear of the trailer going forward. My trailer is a 266RKS (Starcraft), so the Zero mark was at the back wall and the foremost front of the roof measured 266 inches. The drawing was labeled "Roof, Assembly" and consisted of three line drawings.

I assume Jayco uses the same way to measure their RV's. My trailer was built after Jayco took over Starcraft. All major components of my RV have stickers with Jayco part numbers for reference.

I have that from Jayco, guess I will just have to take a shot and cut a hole from where I think they are measuring from, thanks

Use the plans to look in the general area and use a stud finder to mark the edges. Cut a small hole in the middle to inspect and make sure you are not going to nick any wires.

There are also iPhone and Android inspections cameras the size of a Pencil

question on this 2nd unit

I would like to put a 2nd ac unit in my 2012 Jayco Jay Flight 25RKS. I have the drawing from Jayco for my unit, but I have not pre wire, no vent and no caped electrical box. I'm wondering if the 14x14 structure is still there if zero prep is showing?
