Sewer Odor Simplified

I think I figured this out. After dumping our tanks, I noticed a really bad smell when I got home. Well it's really simple when I think about it and maybe I could be wrong, but here goes. It seems to me that simply draining and flushing the black tank stirs up the solids and yes the odor will migrate up through the toilet, there's no S-trap to trap the gas. Especially when you add the enzyme and more water through the toilet. What I did yesterday was did my normal black then grey tank drain, added about 6 gallons of fresh water with dawn soap to black tank (again there I go opening the black tank seal by flushing the toilet so yucky smell hello!), drove down the road a bit and drained again, then flush through rear flush connection, got home and added the enzyme with 3-4 gallons of water AND this may be the key, added maybe 1/2 cup water to the toilet, this will simulate an S-trap on the toilet itself. No more sewer odor!!! Yeah!!!!! I foregot to mention, this is my first TT so I'm alittle slow at these things!! I hope this helps anyone whom maybe having similar concerns. Whew....I think I need to use the RR now! LOL

Where did you drain the tank when you "went down the road"? Do you back wash your black water tank to get rid of the solids? There is a vent to the outside to get rid of the gas produced in your black water tank. Maybe the enzymes you are using are not strong enough for the size of your tank. The toilet valve should stop any gas from coming up through the toilet. It has a rubber seal. Good luck with the smell.

I always use dump stations to drain tanks down. I've got a nice tank flush connection on my new 22fb at rear of TT, very convenient. Once I added the final stage of enzyme and water, odor GONE! It seems to me that the draining and flushing of the black tank actually makes the odor worse, kinda magnifies the smell. So this was my 3rd dump and treating procedure, I think I've got it tackled.

I always leave some water in the toilet bowl, it helps prevent odors coming up from the black tank and help prevent the seals from dryig out.

after I drain the black tank I run water through the toilet again and then drain it again, Them I put a couple gallons of water in the tank, and about 2 cups of Pine Sol and then drop in the enzyme packet before I park the trailer.
