Am I correct that if I am connected to shore power, I should not have the tt connected to the tug lights recepticle.

Depends on the vehicle. Most recent factory wired trailer connectors have a disconnect relay that removes the 12VDC connection between the trailer and TV when the ignition is turned off.

I disconnect mine. I don't see any need to risk the tow vehicle's electrical system by having it connected to the trailer's converter. While it is true that most trucks have a disconnect relay, what happens if someone forgets about it and starts it up, or worse drives away in the truck without unplugging it.

My standard set-up/tear-down routine is thus:
set up
- level trailer side/side, unhitch/park truck
- level fore/aft (electric jack), extend slide
- hook up shore power/water

tear down.
- retract slide
- hitch up / plug in truck
- disconnect shore services

I guess this goes back to my dry-camping days when the trailer battery was pretty much dead by the end of the trip, the slide and tongue jack would be too much of a draw and I needed a running truck to get enough juice.

Since the thread is "Shore Power" I have a ??. ShorePower refers to marine situations where boats connect to 110/220 volt power while at dock. I understand the similarity that this has to an RV site hookup but wondering, is there an actual term for the power post at a cap site?

It's usually called the "pedestal".

Interesting question. I've always called it "shore power", probably always will. I think of my RV as a big (very big I guess) rolling boat! LOL!

This thread also has me thinking about what's actually happening at my truck plug when I'm plugged into shore power. Guess I'll have to put a meter on and find out.

My process has always been:

-Back in
-Level left to right
-Place wheel chocks
-Plug in Shore power
-DW turns on AC and begins inside setup/tends to the boy while I do the rest
-Unhook truck
-Level front to rear
-Lower stab jacks
-Place X-Chocks
-Place supplemental jacks (Stack Jacks)
-DW runs slide out after all stabs have been lowered/placed.
-Snug curb-side stack jack

Ya, but then there's some ambiguity if you post that you put your DW on a pedestal.

Guess that's the best answer. We all know what someone is talking about when they say shore power. Just strange we RV'ers don't have our own term. I just named the pedestal in my back yard as Land power but since land is by definition also shore, o well????

Any time I hear the term, SHOREPOwER, I assume they are from a nautical background.

I just refer to it as the power pedestal.

The history of the term "Shore Power" as used by the RV industry goes back a few years. The picture below is how the RV industry got into using the term Shore Power. The RV owner in the picture below parked at a dock (with electric hookup) for a few days then went to a Camp Ground, asked for a site with "Shore Power" and since then it is history.

I wonder how long it will take to fill that BLACK water tank under the RV?

This is all the information I could find on the subject.

I don't know about other companies, but STARCRAFT's ( hence JAYCO's) roots go back to the boat industry. They started making boats in the 20's and then campers in 1964.
