Shower Curtain Tension Rod

Has anyone put up a tension rod in the shower in place of the ugly brown, clips in a track thingy? Just curious about it staying in place while traveling down the road. Even at home they seem to slide down over time so I'm assuming all the jostling of driving will make a tension rod fall down.

You can get "cups' that mount to the wall with a small screw that will keep the rod from dropping. They are normally used for closet rods.

still means screwing something into the wall where I have no idea what's behind it.

I would think with all the vibration and flexing a trailer goes through that a tension rod would be on the floor when you arrive at the site. It could cause some damage bouncing around there.

Nothing that a 1/2" or 3/4" screw would hurt. Look at how the rod is mounted in your closet.

As Grump mentioned, the closet rod plastic cups work great. I use them in mine. No problem with the screw mount either. If you cut the shower rod (I used the one Jayco had installed but had to space one cup out) so it is a real snug fit, it will never move. The snug fit will keep tension on the cups and not vibrate out. My screws hit wood but even if they don't, if you have a snug fit they will hold just fine because the sheer force is straight down and shouldn't let the hole enlarge from movement.

At home I used the same cups on one shower. I hate the tension rods so just used a piece of 3/4" electrical conduit. It also is a snug fit and never moves.

You might also try industrial strength double-sided tape (available at any hardware store) to hold the curtain rod "cups" in place. I've used this very strong tape to hold things on a number of areas in my home and trailer and have never had it loosen and fall off. Just remember to clean the area first with rubbing alcohol before applying the tape.

3M VHB tape is outstanding. I use it for many things. Strange that I didn't think to use it for this application. The mind isn't what it used to be. Wait, what were we talking about.

We have had a tension rod in both of our trailers. Replaced the factory clip and track. Never have had them fall or anything. Our last trailer we traveled almost 20k miles. The new trailer we are only about 3kmiles but we just got it in may.
