Hello All. I was looking at the shower surround and I thought it would be sealed or caulked at the bottom of it where it meets the tub. Should this be? how about at the top also? I am nervous that water will get in and we all know what water is gonna do.
Its not supposed to be caulked but the surround is set too close to the tub from the factory. The water can’t get out and turns moldy. I am ripping out the surround this winter and installing it properly.
I know that its advised to not caulk the joint, but I had capillary action/ water flowing over the outside edge of the surround and the tub when in use. (even if the trailer 'level' was in favor of water running the other way). So I put about 2 inches of caulk in the corner to keep the water from running on the floor.
Normally would not caulk this area with the following exception. If you use the "shower" to either wash animals or do any activity down near the overlap, I would consider clear caulking. In TT's the design seems to be to let air flow between the shower and walls. When I asked a mechanic about this he suggested that sealing the area would produce mold.
