"Sleepability" of the Convertable Sofa

Just curious if someone could shed some light on the comfort of the sofa bed option on the trailers. Looks like they use the same sofa bed on many trailers. Can you sleep 2?

Also, do I understand the jackknife sofa is not a pull out bed?

My issue is that we would like a bed for a couple and don't want to stick them in the bunkhouse with kids.

If its a jackknife sofa like mine, one adult is plenty IMO. Tow small kids, maybe...The jackknife just folds down, so you only have the top and bottom cushions as surface area. It is not a pullout bed. Of course the dinette will sleep one adult as well, if you have one. Jayco lists my trailer as "sleeps 7 to 9" but 9 would be 2 on the dinette and 2 on the sofa bed.

My 16 year olds best friend slept on the jackknife and said only one side of it was comfortable. He said the cushion was way too stiff at first so we removed them. Then on the second trip a friend of mine (mid 40's) slept on the dinette bed. He said it was not bad at all and given it was cold was glad the heating duct came out in the main cabin. So I would say you can sleep on adult reasonably comfortable on the dinette and or our Jackknife sofa's.

You are referring to the sofa bed not the jack knife sofa if I am correct. My daughter slept on it and didn't complain. It folds out and 2 can definately sleep on it. It's not a complete matress, but it folds out more like a normal sofa sleeper. Definately an upgrade to the jack Knife.

Ours is Queen size and sleeps my 16 year old just fine. I bet a married couple would complain however. :-)

We opted for the hide a bed on our TT. It has an air mattress and my BIL and SIL sleep on it when they camp with us, neither one is small, and they say it is very comfortable.

We have the jack knife sofa in 2014 198rd. our 9 yr old son sleeps on it and likes it. Honestly can't see myself sleeping on it and I am only 5ft tall., barely bigger than hobbit size. The cushion on back and cushion on seat are not the same so there is a gap when you open it to bed and that is the main discomfort I can see. But he is fine for now. Good luck! 6 ft tall friend sleeps on their dinette (same as ours) at a diagonal. The dinette is bigger than the jackknife bed.

I slept on the jackknife sofa one night. Awful. No adult should sleep on one of those things. Our trailer's about a year old now, and already the foam is getting compressed and not providing much support. Poor excuse for a sofa, and even worse as a bed.

In our X19H I preferred sleeping on the jack knife couch (Not a pull out) vs the bunks. Way more comfortable not to mention no need to climb in and out of it.

With this camper, it's not long enough to sleep on for an adult.

Another loud NO vote here. Jacknife sofa is extremely uncomfortable and way too short for an average sized adult to sleep on. It's barely comfortable enough to sit on.

Our 2017 Jayco 29.5 BHDS 5th wheel has, I believe, a full size in width, no way a queen, fold out couch with a foam base. While I didn't find it comfortable in testing it before purchase it is way more comfortable than my last RV, a 2015 Forest River, that had a fold out couch with an air mattress. That was terrible!!!, and one of the reason's we traded up to a 5th wheel with bunks! When the grandkids are with us we don't have to use the couch or the dinette for sleeping. When not with us we've got great extra storage!

This was the comfy one - not the same one you see in the larger campers.

Our fold-out was an air mattress. Our son and DIL slept on it a few times and declared it horrible. I’ve since removed the sofa and replaced it with a 3 recliner theater sofa from Thomas Payne. When they travel with us they now bring their Aero Bed, another inflatable but it seems to sleep them more comfortably. It’s a queen or double (don’t remember) and fits in the space as the old fold out with a little more room to spare.

The hide a bed sofa in the jayflights is a full size and is quite comfortable. We have had several couples use it and not one complaint.

Its probably a good thing that these are not very comfortable for guest to stay with you. If it was they would never want to leave.

Ours is comfortable. But only for one person. Smaller than a full size mattress. We tried it once for two but there was no way we would have slept a full night.
