Slide topper for 28BHBE

My wife and I ordered our first camper, a 2016 28bhbe which is due to come in to the dealer in the next week or so. I chose to have the dealer installer a slide topper over the slide out. I believe they quoted me $675 with parts and labor. Does this sound comparable to what others are paying? Thanks in advance for any help.

How long is your slide? What brand topper? That price doesn't seem too unreasonable, considering purchasing the topper itself is not cheap.

I'm not sure on the brand of cover, I tried to look up the specs on exactly how long the slide is, I wasn't able to find out exactly, I'm guessing it is around 12'.

I just did a quick calc for a 12' white topper on Carefree's site, and it came to about $350 with mounting brackets. If you are handy, you can just order one and do it yourself, if you feel comfortable drilling into the outside of your trailer.

I am pretty handy, there's just something about drilling into a new fiberglass trailer that makes me uneasy..

I agree with you on that. One of the main reasons I never ordered toppers for mine. I currently have a double slide, and it would have run about $800 for the toppers alone, plus pay someone to install them.

Ours was pretty close in price to what you mentioned ($675), maybe a shade less. The topper rail was installed over where the old drip rail was, thus covering and sealing old screw holes. We have the A&E. All works well. Normally I would have installed it, but dealer gets stuff overnight and they meet my expectations on work quality, so I let them do it before picking it up.

I think we paid almost $800 for ours to be installed on our brand new 28bhbe in March...

I knew it was too much, but just couldn't handle the thought of doing it ourselves and screwing that up before the ink was dry on the paperwork! This way it was done when we initially picked it up.

I just had an 85" one installed on my TT and it cost me $530 installed at CW!
Thought I paid too much for 6 1/2 ' topper but didn't want to drill in the wrong place.

For those with a 28BHBE...

How long is the slide ?

What length Slide Cover did you use?

I think I'm gonna go with a Dometic / A&E.

Nelson, what did you end up doing if you don't mind me asking? I called Jayco today as I was told they would install toppers at the factory. I was transferred to a nice man who pulled up my camper order. He advised that the Jay Flight line are not framed for a topper and that the factory would not do it. My dealer had said they would do it for around $600 (wasn't given a firm price). Haven't decided if I'll let the dealer do it, do it myself or just not get one...

Ouch. If Jayco says it's not framed I'd worry about the long term effects. A related story: the 5er we were negotiating did not have toppers. The dealer included them at no cost to sweeten the deal. It was a pretty good exchange I thought. On delivery I discovered they'd put the bottom of the Carefree line on and in white. The 5er is a "mocha" color. Oh well, if it doesn't kill you......
