Smoke Detector Location

Hi everyone,

My smoke detector, (not the combination LP/Smoke detector) in my 2019 SLX 287 is chirping - obviously due to needing a battery change. My slide is in for the winter and I can't see the detector. Where the heck is it?

Welcome aboard.

I do not know where it is for that particular unit. But the smoke detectors are always mounted to the ceiling.

It is just a simple 9V battery operated unit like you have in your house.

Found it

It was indeed above the dinette in the slide. Extended the slide in winter weather always scares me but I managed to get it.

Seams like a bad spot to install a smoke detector.

Smoke will get anywhere and everywhere eventually. I would want it readily accessible, and not somewhere, where the smoke has to make its rounds first.

Glad you found it.

You should only have one smoke detector, and there's not a combination LP/smoke detector made that I have ever seen. There is, however, a combination LP/carbon monoxide detector. Those are always mounted very low and close to the floor. As stated, smoke detectors are always mounted on or very close to the ceiling. My hearing is not the best and it is often very difficult to tell from what that chirping is coming from. That said, it recently happened to me and it was my LP/carbon monoxide detector after a lot of listening and looking. Those are hardwired, so no batteries. I did some checking and found that some models have a timer built in that after 5 years of use it starts chirping as a reminder that the unit has to be replaced. Yep, almost all of them must be replaced after 5 years use, no way to reset them. Not something that you want to just disconnect and forget about either. I did find one that lasted 7 years so I put that one in.
