Snow on roof

SO my buddy has a keystone hornet trailer. He called me and asked if I did anything about the snow on the roof of my camper. He said he was worried about his. I dont know how keystone builds there roofs. But I have watched that video, the one Jayco put out about the construction of there new tuff roof system. They load the roof up with cement blocks Jaycos and a competitor and the jayco held up great, If you havent watched it, you should its neat. With that said I would be more worried about ripping my cover or damageing the roof.

I saw the video of the Jayco roof system too and was very impressed. Here's a to the video for anyone who hasn't seen it. We had some ice and snow here in the Willamette valley, Oregon his weekend. I wasn't worried about accumulation on top of the roof as the density of cement in the video is about 2g/cm3 and the density of ice is .92g/cm3. Even if the ice was packed as tall as the cinder blocks, it wouldn't weigh as much as what they put on for demonstration. Needless to say, the snow came Friday afternoon and was gone by Sunday afternoon. It would have taken me longer to climb up the ladder!

I live in snow country.... and I have never seen an RV roof collapse under snow....

I guess it could happen to a roof that has had some water infiltration and is weakened, but it would take a huge amount of snow and ice to really cause some problems!

My dealer recently posted a cautionary statement on their Facebook page about removing snow from the roof after we received 8-12 inches of snow in Kansas City last week. They suggested removing the snow with a plastic shovel or broom and advised against standing on the roof. I was a bit paranoid about my TT at first but after shoveling the snow in my driveway I realized it was a light , powdery snow and not the heavy, wet snow we had in the past. I'm going to check on the TT this weekend but even with 8 inches of light snow on the roof, I'm not too concerned.

Yes alkways use a plastic shovel and leave a 2-3 inch of snow on it...if you do remove it... trying to clear everything might simple cause some problems if you scratch the membrane

On very rare occasions I have used a push broom to remove some snow from our trailers. I rarely did this but when the snow got really deep like 30 in or so I would use a push broom and leave about 6 in on the trailer. You need to be very careful of vents and anything else that extends out of the roof. I really don't recall seeing any dealers clearing snow from their inventory.
