Solar ready?

24RL, TT, Open the door and right in front of u, “SOLAR READY”, Go Power, 30 amp. There is on the roof a place to plug in your wires, no panels. I found the wires behind the solar ready sticker. My question, they are a #10, seems small? Has anyone used these the #10?

My 24 RL 2017 model has the "solar ready" plug in at the tongue area.
It works good for a portable solar panel setup.
I don't know if those wires are #10 or not.....but nothing has fried so far with a 120W output panel and a 10W controller, feeding the 2 6v batts for a charge up.

I believe that is a 10Amp controller not 10 watts. The panel is probably a 24Volt output which should give you around 5 amps which is fine on the 10AWG. Not sure but I believe others were saying they had 8AWG cables. Can't understand why Jayco would use different size cables for SOLAR.

My scymatic shows #8 but some smart person decide #10 would be better, (or cheaper),

Wire size is a function of amperage not watts or voltage. It also depends on the length of the wire run and temperature although I don't think either of them will be an issue in this case. Look at this web page and you should be able to answer your questions. If not, you should probably hire the installation out to a competent solar installer as you can burn down your rig with the wrong size wire.

If you are wired for 30 amps you could put up to 500 watts of solar panels. Keep in mind you need batteries that can utilize that much charge. Depending on your needs you could start with about 200 watts with two 6 volt 210 amp-hr batteries in series. That would allow about 105 amp-hours per day charge.

Here is a list of my actual measurements in my trailer for current usage of each device:
CO2 detector 0.1 amps
Radio 1.0 amp
Living Room TV (w/inverter) 4.5 amps
Bedroom TV 2.5 amps
Lights (each) 0.6 to 1 amp
Refrigerator 1.0 amp
Water Pump (while water on) 5.0 amps
Hot water heater 0.4 amps
Furnace 8.6 amps

Calculate usage (Amp draw * hrs used) = amp-hrs

Note: This is only needed for dry camping.
