Solar ready: what does it do?

We have a 2016 Jayflight 34rsbs...love it! Anyway we want to attach a harbour freight solar kit to two 12 volt batteries to trickle charge them while boondocking. We were just going to clip the panel to the battery as most do but were wondering what the little plugin for solar panels does. (Nothing in book on sites..our dealer didn't really know..sad..) does it hook into the battery connection to bypass having to hook right to the battery? Does it have to have its own kit? Does it just add electric to the camper somehow? What is this thing?

Im just here to help, but no nothing about solar power.

However, this thread may help you understand what Jayco's solar ready means or does.

I installed a hf 100w to my "solar ready" tt. Trace the wire from the plug. They may not be attached to anything.

That's what we were wondering too. How come nobody knows anything about this? It is just some sort of marketing thing?

Yes it is a marketing thing.. the wire used is not heavy enough for a serious solar setup.

It is just a connection point and wire run from the roof to somewhere inside your trailer. It probably is not connected to anything as it would need a charge controller, fuses, wiring to battery, and panels to complete the system.

And as stated above the wiring is probably not large enough for any meaningful solar system.

Cheers
