Speed Limit Towing

Sorry if this is a repeat. Do you tow your TT at the posted speed limit or do you pull it at a certain speed regardless?!?

It depends on the situation. Sometimes I'll run the limit, but if traffic is heavy, or if the roads are hilly/curvy I may run slower.

Unless you've changed the tires they are rated for a Max 65 mph. With that said I run at 60, better fuel economy for one thing. We're retired and never travel over 350-370 miles a day either.

Most travel trailer tires are rated for a max. speed of 65 mph, and in most state (at least the ones through which I've traveled) set the RV speed limit at the max semi-truck speed. The towing "sweet spot" on my F150 Ecoboost is about 62-63 mph. I get the best fuel mileage there, the truck/trailer combo handles the best there, and I just feel most comfortable driving my combo at that speed. So I normally set the cruise control on 62.5 and then adjust it down according to road/weather conditions and local speed/traffic conditions. That's what works for me.

I will usually travel the posted truck speed limit if I can unless its over 65 ... I don't want to go so slow as to cause an accident either lol

In California it's 55 and chains MUST be crossed and I have been spot checked. But to answer your question I run 57-61 or follow the trucks and my tires are cool, balanced and rotated. I rotate yearly just before camping season begins and this way I can inspect them with a fine tooth comb.

Usually in the 55-60 mph range for me. I try to enjoy the journey, and going slower helps me with that. Also, I believe that slower speed = less strain/wear&tear on the TV drive train, not to mention I get an extra 1 or 2 MPGs compared to driving at 65.

The speed limit around here on most highways is 100 kph (~62 mph). If I'm on a 4-lane divided highway, I drive in the slow lane at around 95 kph (~59 mph), but if it's a normal 2-lane highway, I either stay with the traffic or go the speed limit, which ever is slower. No point in getting a ticket or causing an accident for going too fast or too slow.

For stated reasons above, I run at 60 mph. Ultimately I let the conditions dictate if a slower speed is required.

Happy travels

Similar to what he said...but 62mph on 4-lanes.

Plus, in dense traffic, as in a city, I'll go faster than 62mph on the 4-lane to keep pace with traffic; even if that is slightly above the speed limit.

60 MPH. If I am excited about getting to my destination, I just leave a little earlier. I have passed and also have been passed by other RV'ers at 60.

We were on I-65 a couple of weeks ago [not towing] doing 75mph and got passed by 4 or 5 guys hauling campers from northern Indiana and 1 was a Jayco. Couldn't believe it. We usually run around 65mph towing unless I'm going down hill and not paying attention and I've hit 72 or 73. Oops. Hard to keep the 6.7 PSD down.

I was towing on I95 in Maine in the fall, doing my usual 60-62 mph, and some guy towing a TT flew by; had to be pushing well over 80 mph. He must have been in a rush to get somewhere, because I sure hope he didn't think he was impressing anyone. Would hate to see what would happen if someone cut him off, which does happen quite a bit out there.

Try to say between 60 and 65 mph. On interstate maybe a little faster if its not 110 degrees out!

I like to cruise at 63-65. I don't like to go over the tire rating. Makes me feel safer as well, don't feel anxious towing at this speed

What ever the posted limit is. In Texas its 85 MPH on I10 west...
I changed from 15 inch 2500 # per tire to 16 inch 3500# rated and as per manufacture I can run 70 PSI Vs 80 pounds and have no problems. I've towed for years with cruise set on 75-85 no problems.
