splitting a cable line
Is there a way to split your cable TV wire so that you can run 2 TVs? I would like to split it so we could use a small TV outside for sports games and such. Is there a splitter to use from the source to run one cable into the camper cable line and then have one we can run to have the outside TV?
Thanks!
Suzanne

Yes,
You should be able to walk into Radioshack/Wallmart/Home Depot and just ask for a coax splitter.
If you need something more RV specific, call Tweetys

The only issue on a standard splitter is if the signal strength is marginal to begin with you may get bad reception on both lines once the signal strength is effectively halved. They do make splitter with boosters, but are quite a bit more expensive and require 120vac. If you run into weak signal situations you could always connect either the outside TV or inside TV at a time. We often run a TV outside for football when camping, rarely is both inside and outside running at the same time.

Main question, do you only want the 2nd TV on the incoming CC cable connection on the side of the trailer, or both the CC cable and the TV antenna on the roof? I am assuming that you want to split the CC TV signal before it goes into your TT. That is the easy one. Just buy the splitter below from Wallmart, Radio Shack or any store like that, and connect it like shown in the picture. If you want to connect the 2nd TV to both your CC cable and your roof top TV antenna, it will be a little more difficult. I can go into detail if you want to do that, just let me know. Beside buying a splitter (do not buy an amplified spliter, as cable does not need an amp) you will need a small piece of coax to connect the splitter to the TT and one for your 2nd TV.

This is an easy answer for cable. They have been doing it for decades in home installs. There is a single input to the house and the signal is split and sent via coax to any room you want. An RV situation is no different. Just buy a splitter [2 or 3 or more ports available and have at it.
Splitting a sat signal is a little more technical. If using a 2nd receiver, just run a 2nd feed from the dish or use a splitter [my dish installer gave me a couple. If only using one receiver, then split the output from the receiver and route it to both tvs. In my case, I ran the feed to the main tv using a HDMI cable from the receiver and then routed a 2nd feed from the coax output port to the TT internal wiring loop but you can only get the same thing on both sets. To get a channel choice, you'll need a dual receiver or a 2nd receiver.

thank you for all your suggestions! Hopefully I will be more "prepared" for the next camping season. Further questions to follow....

Your footnotes on the splitter connections is a bit foggy.

I always carry a short male to male cable and a splitter and connect this up at the camp cable connection on the pedstal. Then I can hook up the regular cable TV to the trailer and then also run a longer cable under the trailer to a table under the awning. I can hook up a second TV here when we want to have a TV outside.
