Squeaking sounds when towing

Hi,

I just brought home my new 2010 Jayco Jay Feather travel trailer today -- an 18-ft model. Things went well, but just as I was nearing home, I could hear some squeaking sounds that I believe were coming from my truck. It was hard to tell where the sound was coming from. It sounded similar to brakes squeaking. However, I just had the brakes checked a couple of weeks ago and the mechanic said they were fine.

What else could cause this sound. Wheel bearings, or? It seemed to occur at very slow speeds--almost when braking.

Thanks

Do you have a weight distribution system such as an "Equal-i-zer" that uses friction for sway control?
Do you or did you lubricate the ball on your tow vehicle?
Does it happen only during a turn? Only when braking? Only during acceleration?

Some "Squeaking sounds" can be difficult to locate or dertermine the problem.
If you did not lubricate the ball on your hitch, it could have come from there. I do not lube my hitch until I here a noise or squeaking noise.
The same goes for my Equal-i-zer system. Lubricate and give it another spin around the block.

yup! Lotsa squeeking can come from the WDH situation that you have. Currently we have Equalizer, but before that we had a Reese and several others over the years and we still had some major squeeking!

But I can tell ya, the one that works best with our F-150 and Jay flight G2 29bhs set-up that allows us to travel at 65mph in wind with no sway prooved to be the Equalizer. Man! That sucker still squeeks on the turns though! (just like the other companies we had over past couple of trailers).

Hi

We had a similar problem. Our problem turned out to be loose hub covers. Two of the four covers would turn easily in their mountings creating noise. I used clear silicon to stop the covers from moving. The dealer assured me that there was no danger of the covers falling off.
