Steel wool for mice control

I've read on forums and my neighbor also advised me to plug holes with steel wool.
All Walmart had was the copper wool. Will it work the same?

Copper works best. I used to work for a pest control company and we used copper in a bulk roll. Steel wool works but rusts over time.

The package says “copper coated” so I suspect it will rust over time.

I have a few that i have had for many years. No rust.

Just cut up pieces and shove in to the holes. I sealed the holes with a little marine caulk afterwards. I did the holes from both the inside and outside, where I could reach.

I also have a copper scrub pad, that I cut a little knot ch to the center, and is around my power cord, to keep things from crawling in.

I used aluminum screen wire cut into narrow strips (lots of little sharp ends!) stuffed into the holes and foamed or silicone caulked into place from inside and out.

I saw there is a "professional" steel wool fiber fill mix on Amazon but $25 seems a bit high. Walmart and a lot of places sell stainless scub pads but hot sure they would work as well as no sharp ends to stop digging in rodents.

it isn't the sharp ends it is the biting of the metal that causes discomfort to the said rodent.. just like when you chew gum with a bit of metal gum wrapper... we know how we like that ... not...
