Storing with slides out
Hello all
Next week we will be taking delivery on a new 2015 Jay Flight 33RLDS. We're seriously beyond excited here...
We usually store our current TT in indoor heated storage off of our property in the winter months. But, since we are excited to get acquainted with the new unit, we anticipate keeping it in our driveway for a month or so to just goof off with it before we put it away for the remainder of the winter.
We've noticed that many people store their campers in the driveway with the slides out at all times. Is there a particular reason for doing this?

My slides only go in when we are on the road. Slides out and you have a better seal against rodents. Ours is always plugged in and we add some heat all winter. It's a great place to watch a movie on a Sat night!

The only time my slides are extended when it is stored in my driveway is when we are packing tocamp, unpacking from camping, cleaning or using it for extra sleeping quarters.
When not being used both slides are in.

I don't know if one way is better than the other but when we aren't using the TT I keep the slides closed.

I keep my slide in unless the TT is in use. The roofing material used on the slide isn't as robust as the main roof so why expose it to the elements if isn't required, but that's just me.
I've found that with my slide in it's sealed tighter around it's perimeter, especially underneath the slide (critter entry).

Slides in keeps weather and rodents out. Also slightly easier on the frame.

I'll add my twist.
I don't have enough room to put my slide all the way out when it is next to the house. BUT I still use the trailer for a guest bedroom as needed. In 6 seasons owning this, I have never had an issue. I have even used the dinnette and couch with the slide partially out.
I do put the slide in when not used to keep standing water and pine needles off the roof.

I see both small and large trailers used a seasonal with their slides out all summer. People camp for weeks on end with their slides out. I can't find any good reason to keep the slides in when not in use. In other words, either seems fine.
That said, my slide is in when closed for the winter, slide might in or out when not being used.

Keep mine closed. I have to park in the back yard under oak trees. Keeps leaves off slide roof plus keeps it clean.

Our dealer said to either leave it out or in Part way doesn't make a good weather seal. We have a 26BHS.

Leave mine in when not in use, especially for the winter. Don't need leaves and pine needles piling up there, nor do I want the extra snow weight on them. We keep the TT in the driveway, and it's a lot easier to get around it when the slides are in too.

Mine is under a shed so weathering is not a problem. I leave the slides out simply cause I am in and out so much.
It usually closed when traveling though. [emoji2]
