stupid(me)question time

left my TT in storage 275 miles away. New battery(interstate deep cycle) in it. I left a light on in the rear bedroom. Going back down on 7/26. I know when I arrive I will have a dead battery. Question is this, If I take along my deep cycle battery charger and hook it up to the battery, will I be able to get my slides out? Should I hook up to the campground electric service before hooking up the battery charger? Can I jump with my car? I will be staying for 3 nights, is that enough time to recharge the battery to bring the slides back in? If the answer to most of these questions is no, I guess my only choice is to buy a battery here and take it down with me, and bring the interstate back and charge it good at home. This was the first time with the TT and I started to take the battery off and bring home, but due to the electric jack in front, I left it on.(CG moves the TT for me). Can I take the battery next time and leave the manual crank for the front jack in the jack? Still learning I guess!

I forgot to mention that I do have a small pickup with a place to connect a trailer to for lights etc. Will this work to get the slides out and then let the cg electric power recharge the battery? It is a 32 TSBH. What size connector do I need for my truck to make this work? If it will work.

If connected to shore power your converter will provide the 12 volt necessary for the slides. Also, if connected to shore power your converter should have no problem charging battery over the 3 days. W/O shore power you vehicle 7pin should provide enough current to move the slides. I dont think you need. new battery--- yet.

If this was me, and the campground moved my TT in and out of storage for me, I would always take the battery with me and keep it on a battery tender at home when not in use. Constant charge, drain, charge is hard on a battery.

Great! Some good news! Is it possible to leave the manual crank for the electric jack in the jack?

Sorry just typed a response thinking you were asking about a slide motor.

You can, but it isn't secure...the campground should have override cranks, I'm sure they see dead batteries all the time.

The ones I've seen don't bother the the Jack. The pick it up with a 3 pt hitch . No cranking.

If the CG moves the trailer, would they possibly disconnect the battery for you, so it will not be drained completely. If it was disconnected the battery might not go dead.

Me thinking your battery may be toast now... We have found once they go below 10.5VDC discharge state they usually dont come back for you if left this way for any long time frame... It may show being charged but wont have any capacity. Your bedroom light is probably one of those 12VDC automotive type incandescent bulbs which draws at least one amp of current. Probably killed your battery the first night.

I have a battery disconnect switch. When leaving my TT at a CG I make sure the switch is in the OFF position. When the CG personel put my TT in the site for me they switch it to ON. This way the battery is still charged and they can use the electric tongue jack to level fron to back.

sounds like a winner...where do i find one? actually I googled them and found a wide assortment. any tips on which to buy?

You should have an inline fuse on the posative battery wire. You can just pull the fuse and leave it in a set location so the campground can plug it in when they need to move the trailer. You can find battery shut off switch at an auto parts store, RV dealers, etc.

You know when I bought TT I remember vaguely something about an inline fuse for the battery being mentioned. The dealer knew I kept it in storage, and thats probably why he mentioned it. I was sooo excited about the new TT, I really didn't hear exactly what he said. On the TT I traded in I simply took the battery home with me, kept it charged and brought it back the next time. Planned on doing the same with the new one. I had the battery pulled and in the back of the truck when I realize I had an electric front jack. So I put it back on. Going back down in about 10 days so I will stop by the dealer and have him show me....Thank you
