Surge protector?

Looking for a sufficient surge protector. Would this be sufficient?

Amazon.com: Progressive Industries 30amp Surge Protector SSP-30XL w/Cover ~UL & CSA Approved: Automotive

Or this?

Surge protector?

If you can swing it, you would be better off to also protect against under voltage. Never know what you are going to run into out there.

I would spend a little more for the PTC30c. It's a good investment and can be repaired/ refurbished at the factory if it takes a damaging strike.

Unlike the TRC's.

X2 on the Progressive Industries PT30C, as TWP and Norty1 suggested. Surge protection is great, but your trailer's electronics are worth the extra cost of the complete system.

Yes, PTC30C and the company stand behind their products.

Yes, Progressive Industries provides the protection you want. I installed the LCHW30 in my rig which is an internal hard wired EMS. I really suck at electrical stuff but this was an easy install under the refrig.
Happy RVing,
Jeff

I too am in need of a surge protector, but I have a concern. I need one that will not shut power off to the TT and leave it off. We take our dog with us all of the time, and often, she stays in the camper for several hours when we are out and about to non-dog-friendly activities. In the summer, I would not want the A/C to be cut off for a long period of time because the surge protector kicked off and wouldn't return power. I realize if the pedestal breaker trips, there is nothing I can do for that (a constant worry when we leave her behind in extreme heat)...

I'm not aware of one that leaves power on - after all, that's the point of the device, to shut off bad/ dirty power to prevent damage to the RV systems.

Mine has a bypass, that can be manually selected if you to intentionally want to accept poor power quality

Perhaps they make one that will auto recover if the condition improves.......

It is my understanding from the research I have done into surge protectors that there are 2 different types: one will protect you from hazardous voltages by automatically disconnecting power flow to your trailer, and one will advise you when power is bad but do nothing automatically. It seems like the hardwired ones are the true protectors and the inline power post plug in ones are the advisory only ones. Both appear to provide surge protection, but it seems that's all the plug in ones will do automatically.

We've owned 2 Progressive EMS units over the last 4-ish years. A 30A pole mount and a 50A hard wired. IMHO the EMS is worth the extra cost. Comparing its cost against that of the TT is how I convinced myself to buy. To me it's like a TPMS, everyone should have one. Progressive's customer service is excellent and both units I've owned have performed flawlessly.

Both the Progressive PT30C and PT50C (as well as their hard wired versions) turn off power to your rig when they detect a situation that is outside their set parameters. When the hazard is gone they reset and restore power. They also have a 2 1/2 minute delay before they pass power at every start up. This is important if you have a brief power outage that comes right back on. You don't want your a/c compressors to be re-energized immediately so this is another safety for your "stuff".

I absolutely will not plug in anywhere without my PT50C and I have a spare still in the box if my primary one ever has to go back to the factory for service/repaid/warranty. Yes, it has a lifetime warranty.

I use a EMS, but I run that first off the pedestal and into a Hughes Autoformer. I would not camp w/o the Autoformer. So many times low voltage is what will fry your electronics. The EMS disconnects me if the voltage is in the danger zone, but the Hughes keeps my voltage 'healthy' even when its close to the danger zone.
