Tail light problems
Hello all. Joined the forum because there are issues with the tail lights/marker lights on my 2017 17RB. I hope to help where I can although I came because of an issue. I have extensive electrical background from installing Railroad signals for 20+ years but am enjoying retirement now.

Hello Rick in Michigan. Welcome to the forum from a former resident of MI.
As a start, drag out your VOM and check your tow vehicle's trailer socket (if you haven't already). There are details online about which contact does what. Let us know.

Voltage at truck socket is 14.1 VDC with truck running in the appropriate places on the socket and the ground tested good. All marker lights work except the top right yellow one one the front. It’s the one up high and kinda teardrop shaped. The taillight and brake light voltage are good and on only when they are suppose to be. The taillight has over a dozen little LEDs and 4 of them don’t work. The camper still has adequate brake/tail/turn because, again, there are over a dozen LEDs in the taillight and only 4 don’t work. Thanks. I checked but found no issues.

Welcome to JOF.
I have purchased on several different occasions, the multiple LED fixtures and bulbs. Recently one had 3 or 3 that blinked on a reading lamp. It drove me crazy trying ro read with it. Like a strobe blinking erratically.
It was billed as lasting 30k hours. They would not refund my money and had no more in stock.
Just cheap junk components. If in warranty, you may have some recourse but likely its like a bad bulb.

Had similar problem on my old RV. The marker light was screwed to the aluminum side of the trailer but for some reason did not get a good ground. I could jump from the socket to the frame and it was ok. I replaced the whole light and it worked fine. Just cheap stuff!

When one LED of an array goes out, it's shot or at least beyond my desire to try and repair. I can't ignore the blinking ones.

I am pretty sure that the LEDs are in either series-parallel or all in parallel of a given array. At least you know you have power to the array. The wiring to those is usually impossible to fool with as they are either on a circuit board or darned near microscopic. I would Just look for a replacement.

They should be in parallel. If in series the individual led voltage would depend on how many LEDs there are with the voltage drop split evenly presume all the led resistances are equal. That would be a manufacturing nightmare. My guess is they are very likely parellel.
I was really wondering if the newer jayco travel trailers with exterior LEDs are prone to breaking ie. they are of inferior quality. Do these things break on many newer jayco’s or is mine an anomaly?
