we do not have dish service at all...for those that have it already how easy is it to set up and call in for activation with no previous service? anything we should know of? thinking we will set it up at home and call in to activate before we get to our seaonal site...we don't get good cell signal to call ...sound like the right thing to do?

I activated my from a campground without a problem, but doing it at home would have advantages. Just stick it outside, run the RG6 into the house and into your 211, run HDMI if you want to be sure the HD is good, or coax for SD if you aren't worried, call 800-333-DISH and activate. They require a physical address to activate local stations. Keep that in mind when you travel into another area and want their local stations. Again, just call, tell them you want locals in your current location, and in a few minutes it's done. We had the Hopper installed in the home Sunday and while there the tech told me if I purchased the 211 rather than leasing it as I do, DISH will shut off charges for it and restart without charge. However, since it's just $7 monthly in our total plan, I won't do that. But if you have cable or home service other than DISH, that's a possibility as you'd save the whole subscription charge while it's not in use.

what a pain this was...glad we are at home trying this out! Husband was ready to throw it out the window. Not sure how I got it working...we called three times last night and still kept getting error messages.. I came home today and hooked it up and it finally downloaded the program guide. I then moved the antenna and rescanned and finally got it to find two satellites. I still can't find 129...But at least it seems to be working now...I will move it around more later...

TVs are now 16/9 AR and HD. Ten bucks is a ripoff. Maybe they'll start charging extra for color! I'd call, ask them to waive it. If CS declines, tell how nice they've been but you'd like to speak to a supervisor. Worth a shot.

we only camp within two hours from home so yes we do get local channels...I think when our comcast agreement expires we may switch to dish at home then just add the reciever to our account...
