Taking paper delivery on Wednesday and have questions, can anyone help?

Hi and thanks again for being such great people on this forum!

We are taking "paper" delivery and doing our inspection this Wednesday on the new 2011 Jayco Jayflight G2 32BHDS which is very exciting!

Here are a few questions:

1) The dealer is trying to sell us a extended 7 year warranty for $1,800. Does anyone buy these and are they good to have? We are seasonal and don't move the camper so all the travel and road assistance doesn't really apply.

2) Since we are taking paper delivery and taking actual delivery in three weeks don't they technically own our trade in as of the signing?

They are asking us to put insurance on the new trailer since it will be on their lot and want us to keep insurance on the trade until they pick it up. Shouldn;t they do that? It's technically not mine, correct?

We were not offered the extended warrenty package. As far as insurance, our TT is being stored on their lot until the snow disappears and ground drys out a little bit and we needed to have insurance on the TT just setting on their lot.

We bought and ordered our tt online and faxed signed paperwork between us/dealer; credit card was our downpayment. Final paperwork was completed when we did our PDI/picked up trailer. When we paid the money still owed, then physically took delivery of the tt, we activated the insurance on the tt.

As for extended warranty, Jayco has a two year warranty. I read a lot on different rv forums, and the consensus was to not purchase the extended warranty. We opted not to.

We didn't do a "trade in" so I can't share any experience there.

Wow, the time went by fast, I bet you guys are pretty excited about finally getting the tt!

(One other thing I should have mentioned is we paid cash for ours so we didn't have to worry applying the insurance til we picked up the tt)

I also insured mine about 2 weeks before I picked it up, all paperwork was finalized before we went. In order for the bank to approve the financing, they wanted proof of insurance up front. I could not get there when the trailer arrived at the dealer due to work conflicts. I had no trade involved either. I did not get the extended warranty.

We bought in November and needed to insure the trailer until we pick it up next month. We bought the extended warranty - against my usual rule. We were seasonal for 10 years and you should read the contract to see if they would come to you for service as it might be hard to get the TT out of the site.

Our dealer offered us the 7 year extended Jayco warranty on our Eagle Super Lite 314BDS for $1000. I cant say its exactly the same warranty but thats a big price difference.

The dealer tried to sell us the extended warranty and we passed on it. When we signed the papers we called the insurance company and cancelled the old trailer and added the new one. The dealer came and picked up the old trailer and since it was theirs I assume their insurance company covered the move.

I'd never buy an extended warranty with minor exceptions, such as vacuum cleaners that never seem to last without work. As for $1700, I don't recall ever needing a repair that costly on anything I've owned in 50 years that wasn't under the original warranty. Turn down three or four of those offers and you have saved enough to fix darned near anything. Insurance? Another story. I'd hate to have to argue that it wasn't mine when it burned to the ground. Much rather pay an extra month and sleep at night.

Cekkk+ that is my thinking also. On our last trailer I ended up replacing or repairing just about everything. The most expencive was the refirgerator at $1100 to repair. At $1700 I would have just about broke even when you include the deductible.

I bought the same TT as you. I did not purchase the warranty. Once I traded in my TT, on 12/21/2009, I dropped the insurance. I simply brought the sales contract to my insurance agent afteI turned in my plates. Once the deaaler called , 2/12/2010 to say the TT was in at their lot I went for a PDI and then insured the new TT., then faxed a copy of the insurance card to the dealer. When I went to pick up my tt, 4/27/2010, I brought my plates and insurance card and took her home.
