Taping AC duct/ vents ?
I thought there was a thread here that had pictures of the ceiling vents being taped up but can't find it. Anyone have a before / after pic or know the thread I'm looking for ? Going camping this weekend and its suppost to be over 100° and I would like to tackle this before we go .
Thanks Allen

Tom is the man! You'll want 2" wide aluminum foil tape for the job.
I've done the same:

Yes, quite a difference overall. And I had one vent above the fridge that was cut at an angle such that the air had no choice but to go into the space in between the ceiling and the vents (the hole cut through the ceiling didn't line up at all with the vent cut into the duct work...it was shifted off center by a full inch). Finding and fixing that alone was worth this mod.

I also did this mod and can't imagine how someone wouldn't (unless you don't need 100 percent of your a/c) way better pressures in the vents! I also **** down the plastic ring and goes up into the ceiling so it matches the depth of the tape. On some I had to cut down and inch or more. Just allows the air flow to get to the back vents

Well I'm glad I taped up my joints. Made a big difference last weekend. Looks like the Ac duct runs in a straight line so I might cut in one more vent .

What exactly did you tape/cut on your 29.5? I too have a 2016 and am interested in this mod. The other link has over 100 pages...

The link provided in post #3 above (the one I copied below) showed the pics of what was taped off. You remove the 4 screws holding in a ceiling AC vent, tape the gap between the duct and the ceiling panel (as shown in the pics provided), remove/unsnap the black ring from the vent cover, and screw the vent cover back to the ceiling panel using the same 4 screws. Easy Peasy! http://www.jaycoowners.com/forums/f6...tml#post551273

Did this today, hoping for improvement in our AC system cooling. We have only one AC unit, the 15K Coleman model, and it does get hot here in Texas. The plastic collars actually looked like they fit pretty good but we'll see what it does to the air flow. Was interesting where the duct was above a curved part of the ceiling - had to go w/ vertical strips around and then put a horizontal layer just in case. Used 2" alum. duct tape.

I checked every one of mine last week and found only 2 needing a patch in the middle where the pilot bit of the hole saw that cut the opening punctured the top of the duct.
A small piece of silver tape patched them nicely.

A few days after the "upgrade" and some experimenting.
Honestly, I'm not noticing a big difference in air flow or cooling.
I left the grill in the ceiling unit closed yesterday morning and left for the day.
Came back at 95° f outside and 81° in the living area.
Today, I left the grill wide open, returned to 99° f outside and 75° inside.
15k unit 2016 28RLS fiberglass exterior, Thermal Package.
Just my results.

Oh yea, and when we're traveling in Texas during the summer, we leave the bubble wrap insulation in the windows until we get out of Texas into cooler climates or get into shade at a Texas campground. I also put the ceiling vent 14" insulators in before our last recent trip and they did provide a noticeable difference in the heat. Well worth the $7 I paid for them.

Just checked the vents on my 2014 27DSRB White Hawk, my vents protrude all the way into the ducting so I do not need to tape mine. Yippee.

Well, they may be impeding air flow out the grills if they are extending too far into the duct. Just sayin'. Some of mine were sticking pretty far into the duct. And, the seal between the plastic collars and the duct are not air tight. Anyway, it was an easy mod and I assume will make a difference. I'll see next time out.

Uh, that was the problem. The point is that the vents should not stick up into the vents. There is also a gap between the ducts and the ceiling that was allowing air to leak out, even when the tube on the vents reached into the ducts.

None of my vents protrude into the duct works, also I had to twist the to get them to go into the ducts so I really have a solid seal on them, I don't know if they took extra care building my trailer or all of the trailers in my class are the same. 8^)

Mine went into the ducts too , also the hole in the duct was bigger than the hole in the ceiling therefore allowing air to get into the cavity above the ceiling.
