The importance of a WDH...
During our glorious 4th of July camping trip we saw a very, very tragic site.
I took this picture in stealth mode. I cropped it but hopefully it's still clear. It was so painful to see. I'm not sure how this person had any steering control whatsoever....
Consider this a PSA.

I hope you went over and stuck up a conversation. And just mentioned it looked a little nose heavy . I am amazed at how many people just don't know that much about these things. He has his family it looked like at least he it trying to get them out of the house. For all we know somebody sold that to them and told them what ever he needed to hear. Just saying. can't fix stupid but sometimes they don't know they are being stupid

I'm afraid to ask what towed in that tongue-heavy single axle ATV trailer parked next to the TT!
Let's hope that he just pulled the TT out of storage at the CG....., but still doesn't make it acceptable.

Have to speak up
When I see something like this I have to approach them. It's not just their safety it's everyone's safety. I'd take the time to help adjust the hitch if it was a WDH but definately would say something.

Is that an ATV in the bed? I think I would have to swing by and say hello and see if he had a WD. Then offer to help him adjust it, or recommend he get one.
What I usually see are the lifted trucks pulling like that while passing cars that are doing 65 on a two lane road. There is no knowledge test to buy a trailer.

This is more common that many realize. I have a 23 mile commute to work. I go southbound into downtown Milwaukee on my way home at night. Late in the week during the summer I see a lot of north bound trailers. At least once a week I see one like this. Just saw one last night in fact. More than once I've seen sway so bad that I thought for sure the trailer was going to dump.

I could bet he just didn't have the WDH hooked up. Maybe pulling it up out of a hole first maybe? IDK. If you look close, it seems like the TT is very low at the tongue.

That's what I was thinking. It looks like the rear of the truck might be in a low spot, but then if you look at the wheel wells, that doesn't play out. Either way, that's a bad setup if it's going down the road like that.

He's been doing that for years and never had a problem which proves that all of you don't know what you are talking about. LOL. Needs more than a weight distribution hitch, he needs to reduce payload by at least half.

In the California/Arizona desert areas where there is a high concentration of Tow Haulers I noticed the "TV Nose High" condition frequently along the highways.

Part of that is the trend here. You lift the truck, but you lift the front more than the rear. Truck sets nose high with no load or trailer.Stupid if you ask me.
Some of them my have leveling kits. They set level with no load or trailer. I installed a leveling kit on my truck when I first bought it. I took it off after towing a small 2500 pound TT running nose high down the highway.

I see A LOT of that down here; big ol' duallies jacked way up in the air. What a waste, SMH. And even the SRWs all lifted with big tires and off-road suspension, towing trailers with the trucks nose pointed up at the stars 'cause the rear end squats down so low. Sometimes I wish people like that would just give ME their money, I would get more use out of it!
I don't get it, if you're going to have a heavily modded off-road vehicle, there are MUCH better choices than a 3/4 or 1T truck, especially duallies! Maybe it's just me...

It's a testosterone thing. I see a lot of these running around with big exhaust pipes sticking though the bed. They never haul anything, they never see any dirt other than what get's splashed on the quarter panels in a rain storm. My 1/2 ton does far more work in a month than a lot of these beasts will ever do.

A couple of years ago we camped at a CG in Cooperstown over the July 4th weekend and extended our stay so we not be leaving on a Sunday , as everyone else would. As most of the CG occupants exited I looked at their setups , from afar, and was appauled that close totwo thirds had me scratching my head. Most were nose up because of the lack of WDH systems. Now everytime I see a TT being towed I look at the set up.

Guilty here too. The ride home from the dealer and 500 miles out and back Memorial Day weekend.
Just enough traction on the front tires to generally point the rig where I wanted to go.
WDH added for July 4. Never again without it.
