They stole my propane tanks

I guess I learned this lesson the hard way, left my FULL propane tanks on the RV while it was sitting in storage. Went to check on it today and they are gone. Poof.

Anyway... I'm trying to find the right tanks to replace them with, someone have a tip?

Trailer is a 2016 Eagle 284BHBE. I think they were 30 gallon tanks? Honestly not sure.

30 POUND tanks, not 30 gallon.

It should be about 24" high if its 30 lbs. If it was a 20 lbs tank, it would only be about 18" tall.

I chain mine, just slows them down!! I even chain my battery, and my spare.
If you don't want to lose them take them off.

Costco usually carries them this time of year. Propane, like gas and diesel is becoming a theft item again.

Tractor supply and Southern States usually has these in stock. Sorry about the loss! Get you some heavy chain and a good lock.

I removed my 30 lb'ers years ago because I was having trouble lifting them. I replaced them in the same hole of my 5er with 20 lb'ers. They work just as well, weigh less and I use the bigger ones around the house for my fire pit and gas grill.

That works, until you cold weather camp. Elk hunting at 8000 feet and 10 F needs more propane.

Yup. Boondocking and running the propane heater will destroy propane reserves quick, fast, and in a hurry.

Yep but it works for us. Very few cold weather for extended periods.

30 pound tanks are fairly common. Tractor supply, menards, fleet farm and many diy stores have them. I notice a few months back amazon even carries them.

I have a bike lock that secures mine. There was a lot of post back in 2012-2014 talking about different methods to secure them.

Chaining them up will probably stop most casual thieves, I would think. Moving to 20lb tanks isn't really a bad idea for me. I don't normally go on trips in the winter, and rarely more than a couple of weeks. 60 gallons is way overkill for my usage.

I avoid buying heavy items at Amazon. Almost always find a better deal locally. Ask around town and I’m sure you’ll find a dealer with then stock somewhere.

Might even find a couple empties at a homeless camp near your storage unit….

Our local Agway stocks both 20# and 30# tanks as a regular item. Take a look there if you have one in your area.

This is a fairly cheap deterrent that I use. I don't believe it will stop someone really determined but it keeps me from being easy prey.

Use 1/2" Pewag chain and a ABUS Granit padlock. Can't be cut with bolt cutters. You HAVE to use a angle grinder and it takes about a half hour to 45 minutes to get through. Not to mention, you need electric. Battery grinders won't do it. Highly deterrent.

I see this one often and think it is very easily defeated. Unless you have welded that threaded rod to the bottom of the tray, all you have to do is turn the rod itself and the tanks are free. I know my rod isn't welded; it came flat packed. My rod is often unscrewing from the bottom as the top wingnut is getting corroded and tight.

I had an issue with the tank valve in my 30lb tank which came new with the RV in 2021. I took the thank to a local LP gas company and they explained to me that allot of the valves that come in 30lb tanks are low quality Chinese made and seem to have more problems. I purchase a new 30lb tank from my local LP Gas provider with a higher quality valve for about the same price as the farm and fleet stores and replaced the problematic valve with a better one, also done by the local LP Gas provider. Just and FYI I had no idea there were different levels of quality in LP tank valves....live and learn.
