Thieves Suck!

Before I continue for this thread to go in the right direction, I take full responsibility! Truck got broke into last night, only thing of value stolen was the entire set of keys to our new WH MRB 23. Contacted dealership was told to look on the the locks for a number, there is no number. Gave them the vin#, they are researching it. They said once they find out info and order, could take two weeks to replace. They said outside shower key is pretty standard and shouldnt be a problem to replace. For those have this trailer, seems like there was anoth key also for this trailer? Called Jayco directly, closed due to snow. Will a lock Smith be able to make some keys for my trailer if I donr want to wait on the dealership. Also any idea's other than a grinder to take off the tongue lock?
Thanks for your help!
P.S. There is a special place in Hell for thieves I pray!

Smurf,

I'd go with the locksmith and take the bite; have the locks re-keyed since your old keys are floating around out there somewhere. The locksmith hopefully should be able to tell you over the phone if they can do the work. I wouldn't count on the dealership getting keys to you in two weeks. The locksmith can probably pick the hitch lock for you in a moment or two. The shower key, as I recall, is pretty universal so you might be able to pick that up anywhere.

And you're right, thieves suck. Good luck.

Outside storage could be the universal 751 key. Both my trailers had the 751 key on outside storage and shower. Hardly Fort Knox.I guess you are saying all the keys were on one ring and are gone, hindsight of course says to keep them separated. ☺ There should be a number somewhere on that lock, perhaps on the inside. The thieves are likely clueless what keys they possess but yes I would get that tongue lock changed out. Also agree on the locksmith, could be a long process through the dealer.

I've had two, maybe three experiences with needing to remove rusted locks; the first one took me forever to cut. The second one was simple, I just drilled in to the key hole (once for a small starter hole then a larger bit).

Don't tell any bad guys this.

Update, through research was able to find replacement keys through Bauer. Door key and compartment keys are the same. Key 751 is the standard outside shower key and I am able to get that at the dealership service department. I was also able to get a replacement key for the tongue lock. Still had the package and it had the key # on it. By Monday at noon I should have all keys replaced. Moving forward after a deep breath I will consider replacing tongue lock and Compartment locks. Ironically enough my RV Keyless lock came in the mail today, so I will be replacing the door lock when I can gain entrance.
Thanks
P.S. Thieves still suck and will burn in Hell!

Check your insurance, Good Sam paid for getting into our truck (long story there) I believe they also pay to get into the TT. You could get in and take the locks out and get a locksmith to re-key them, or look on the inside to get the cylinder number.

The 751 universal key (buy at any RV center), will let you in the storage compartment and if it is like mine access to under the bed to push it up. But I remember a member saying that on the new models they do not use the 751 key any more.

Never mind just read your new post.... glad to hear that news

On the compartment locks, can the lock be replaced or do you have to replace the entire insert?

i replaced my storage compartment locks with barrel key locks. Not that a big screwdriver could not pry it open, but should keep the kids out. You can find them on Amazon.

Get yourself a magnetic key case and find a spot on the TT to put your extra keys. Just in case.

Sorry to hear about your misfortune. This has just broke my habit of leaving my keys in my truck.

Check around your yard

I have a detached garage and shed and kept a ring of keys in my car for other places I need to get into. When the little rascal took them and realized they didn't let them in my property they threw them in the yard which I found while mowing.

This the compartment lock. Can the lock insert be replaced or do you have to replace the entire insert?

Lousy news, hope you can sort out all of the issues quickly. Maybe get storage locks to match, 2017 started that and it made a lot sense, years too late.

Leave things the way they are, put a motion detector or door switch on the trailer, then go outside and beat the crap out of your thief. Oh, the satisfaction!

Smurf, I think it takes a “master” key of some kind to remove the cylinder.
I replaced the battery and front storage locks and the entry door handle assembly with units matching the slam hatch door locks. Got the replacements from RV Locks and More, cost was around $70 IIRC
