Smile Thinking of buying 2013 jayco jay flight 26Bh

I need to make a decision in the next day or two. Any advice from those who own one? I think I'm ok towing it. I have a 2003 Ford F150. I will be towing it empty to the lake (about 30 miles) in the spring and home in the fall. May do a short trip in the fall but that's about all I will tow. I will be by myself, and 3 or 4 kids. I do Foster Care so the number of kids changes Any advice is appreciated.

Having owned a 26BH it is a great trailer; probably the most popular Jayco trailer. Having said that with 3 or 4 kids you may want something that will sleep all of them without having to convert the dinette to a bed. Look for a trailer with a 4 place bunk house in the rear. Also a slide will add a lot of extra floor space.

This will be quite a bit more weight, but for towing a short distance empty should be ok for your truck. Perhaps you can find a good used one.

Welcome to the forum! And good luck with your purchase.

I have that exact model. It's a wonderful trailer. It's currently for sale....but for reasons that it would be perfect for you. (We bought it thinking all of those Gkids would be with us) Plenty of comfortable sleeping room. A ton of storage. Outside fridge and shower.... all the things that you need when camping with kids.
I towed mine with a Chevy 1500 with no trouble at all. I do have a weight distribution hitch.
Welcome to the forum...tons of good information and some very nice folks.
Good luck with your purchase.

We have had our 26BH for two seasons now and love it but it can get a bit cramped in the kitchen area at times when we are all in the TT.

What motor do you have in your truck? We have the 27ft BH and tow it with my 2000 1/2 ton GMC 5.3ltr with no problems.

I have a new to me 27bh 2007 got a few months ago and we tow it with a 1/2 ton Toyota Tundra 4.6 (smaller) v8 with towing package. It does better than I expected towing wise, but you do feel the weight of water if you fill the fresh tank before heading out like I have on some boondocking sort of trips. I installed a sway bar for rear just for handling before buying the trailer but that seems to help. 2 full propane tanks and battery and it does slightly sag a bit lower than I wanted so I load stuff in the rear to offset it, and considering airbags in future if needed. I don't use WDHitch.
I have two kids. The 3rd could fit on the booth bed, or if infant maybe sleep w/ you guys, or on pallet on the floor.

I would not try for bigger trailer unless you have equivalent of the Tundra 5.7 which is a beast or 3/4 ton, but think you will be OK unless its heavy hills.

Just re-read your post. As a base camp you will be happy! It will move it up to the lake. Just get a tent for kids, you may actually sleep better having the noise outside. Or extra kids can be on the floor on cushions/pads.

Welcome to the forum. There are likely more 26BH owners here on the forum then any other Jayco model, as said it is a very popular and affordable family oriented no-slide floorplan.

First of all - THANK YOU for being a foster parent. I happen to be one as well and we do own the 26bh for the reasons you mention. We have removed the dinette to place a pack and play for a baby and have the double over double bunks. We sleep 7-8 regularly but would love to have a slide for the extra room for those times you are all forced to be inside the camper for an extended period of time. We have slept 10 with 2 dogs due to a rain storm and had to fit relatives in so it was 4 adults, 3 teens, 3 little ones plus the dogs... Overall, I would do it again as the pricing of the 26bh and the weight and water storage really comes in handy for the larger family. I tow with an old 6.5 diesel so I avoid steep mountain climbs whenever I can. It's hard to advise without knowing the engine and tow rating of the F150 - best of luck!
