thinking of undercoating the frame of my trailer

I have the x26 p. Noticed some surface rust on the steel beams of the underside of the unit.

Talked to the guy who sprayed my bed liner of the truck. He is willing to spray the rails etc.

Should I? Should I consider rust proofing it?

I would consider these things before doing it. Would the undercoating interfer with any of the following:

1. Dump valve mechanisms.
2. Fresh water tank vent tubes and drain valves.
3. Low point drain valves.
4. Tank sensor terminals.

I would look at POR and do it yourself. It goes on with a brush and it will last for ever. Much better suited for your application.

Thanks for the tip about POR. I had never heard of it, but have some headed this way along with a gloss top coat product!

X2 on the POR-15. Undercoating will eventually get in your way and be very messy. POR-15 has been a standard rust preventative in the antique car hobby for many years, it really works well, and you don't get overspray on things you don't want it on.

Thanks for the great tip about Por. I'd never heard of it either. I was out washing the trailer and noticed all the chip marks behind the battery underneath the diamond plate. I'll add it to my to do list.

POR15 is too pricy unless you have a rust issue that needs to be converted. You can get a few cans of undercoating from the local auto parts store and is pretty good at getting into tight areas. They have a pretty strong spray so watch your overspray.

POR-15 is a great product but I don't think it would be necessary unless you tow all winter on salt covered roads. RV frames and chassis for motorhomes will outlast the body structure!
