Tight Squeeze~

Hey gang! I'm really excited to get my family's first TT. We are looking for a bunkhouse and have held off because the area we would like to store it in has a height challenge. Other than tent trailers or hi-lo's we think a 154BH will slide right in our slant-roof carport. I am including a pic with my 2000 Land Cruiser and the measurements we are working with. I am even willing to let some air out of the tires to make it work! It looks like the lack of AC on the roof and the white box on the top left will allow it to fit.

Can anyone verify that there's would be able to fit?

Thanks!

Yikes! Pic added! The dealer was unsure and wasn't able to commit to my idea with lowered tire air pressure!

It looks like the height of your camper is roughly 9 feet. How tall is the low side of your carport?

That's going to be tight. The only way you will know for sure is to get a measuring tape and measure it. Don't forget that you need extra room to raise / lower the tounge to hitch up and that you won't have control over what happens when you tow vehicle goes over trasistions in your approach.

For you to get any significant drop your going to be letting a lot of air out and that will quickly become a source for errors and also will quickly damage your tire sidewalls. That's not a viable solution.

According to the numbers on the pic the high side is only 8' 5" tall so I don't see any way he can ever get that trailer in that carport. I guess you could take the wheels and axles off and slide it back on the frame rails but that just seems like a lot of work.

Ha! I never zoomed in on the picture to see the measurements! No way is that trailer going to fit... Unless like Hohenwald says... Nah, just not going to happen...

I think the OP might have looked at the specs and read the "interior" height number instead of the "exterior" height number.

You will have trouble fitting it the first time, but after that it should fit every time. Of course it won't be covered any more.

Time to remove the carport... better to have a camper and no carport than a carport and no camper...

Jayco website says 109.25" with a/c. OP said he's not going to have an a/c unit. I still don't think it's going to make. Keep us posted. And is it just me or does that vehicle leaning to the drivers side?

I think your carport needs a basement. Jack hammer the concrete out and you'll probably fit. My neighbor hit the awning on his house a couple years ago, it wasn't a concrete pad underneath so we rented a backhoe and dug him enough clearance. I have to do the same over the winter.

I almost took that to the gutter. Impossible for me to pass it up completely though. My wife even got a chuckle out of it.

Haha. Guess I could have re-phrased that one just a little bit.

Hi, I have a 28BHBE and I have to move it into a tight space and I take a 5 x 5 beam and bolt it to the axels which I then use the Beam as a base to bolt 4 2500lb casters to so I can move my TT up against a wall by hand..You can use u bolts to bolt the I beam to the top of the axels and mount casters onto the beam and pull the tires off which can lower you TT by 8 inches. Its a pain but I only do it when I put my TT away for the season, then when I get it out in the spring time. Just and idea.

A great idea at that!

Ok - you're probably right about the tires- since the 154bh has a wall ac and roof only a slight rise for vent on the right (aligns with tall side of carport) was thinking the measurements went to highest spot. May have to pay for a spot but I love the running start ideas! Thanks everyone!
