Tips on Day 1 Accessories?

Greetings everyone! We pick up our first trailer camper this Saturday - 2017 Hummingbird FD. What are your opinions on items we should plan on purchasing right away... i.e., stuff that doesn't come with the trailer but must have to camp (e.g., marine grade toilet paper).

There's a very long discussion here but you really don't need marine grade tp. We use Angel Soft, others use Scott.

Good luck!

As long as your toilet paper packaging says: "safe for septic systems" you're good to go with it. (no pun intended)

I found that a bunch of command hooks came in handy right off the bat. I even screwed a couple hooks into the walls right into a stud to hang heavier things like jackets on. Small garbage pail, fly swatter, coffee percolator, a fan or two, nitrile gloves for sewer dumping, an upgraded sewer hose with clear fitting so you can see the water run clear and know your black tank is clean. I also keep a 25' and a 50' 30amp extension cords since some of the power posts are really far from the site. Get a good broom and dust pan, a RV mat for outside the door, table cloth, a carpenter's level for getting the trailer perfectly level.

Sometimes known as a dogbone. Your 30 amp camper uses a single phase of power. The 30 amp breaker is the most common connection for a tt. They often get worn, and sometimes they give you an issue. The 50 amp to 30 amp dogbone, allows you to use the 50 amp 2 phase outlet with your single phase 30 amp tt. A couple weeks ago, I had to use mine, as the shore power post for the 30 amp outlet had an open ground. There were no other open electric sites in the campground. Luckily for us, this was the only site in the CG that also had a 50 amp socket.

I only have two 25' extension cords. If I'm in a site and the closest I can get to the pedestal is 75' (2 25' extension cords plus the cord on the TT) then I will not accept that site.

My best tip is to find a near by campground and try out your new camper - all the bells and whistles. Make a list of what didn't work or needs attention. Make a list of what you determined you should have brought with you, but didn't think to. Ideally the near by campground is close to a Walmart and an RV store.

Do you have tools or some plan of action if you get a flat tire?

No one has mentioned a couple of lengths of water hose. Make sure it is safe for use for drinking water and not just a garden hose. I also use a carbon filter as you never know the quality (taste) of the water at campsites.

Appreciate this. We are going to camp the first night in our driveway! I assumed the trailer came with flat tire tools... NO?

No tools for changing a flat, you will need a jack and a lug wrench, most people buy a star lug wrench and it will fit 4 different sizes.

Also check the lugs on the spare sometimes they are a different size then the wheels!

I bought a folding four way from Harbor freight that works great for mine and easy to stow.

Also i bought a light weight aluminum floor jack as i do not like the stability of bottle jacks.

I was thinking about getting one of these to keep just in case I need to change my TT tire. https://www.amazon.com/Trailer-Aid-T...rv+accessories
