Tires

Happy New Year Everyone!! Quick question. How do you all change tires? Do you just purchase the tires and use your existing rims? Or do you purchase the tires already on the rims? And, do you have them balanced?
Sorry, more than a quick question. LOL

What do you have for a camper? There are a number of options.

Hook up and bring the camper to the tire shop (this is what I did).

Lift and block (jack stands) the frame, and take the some or all the wheels to your local tire shop. Some people have made multiple trips, bringing one or two in at a time. Some people who stated they did one tire at a time, placed the spare on the TT, while replacing a single tire (I suspect as a safety perspective incase kids are playing around the area).

My brother just bought new tires and rims for his PU.

Lots of options, just what works best for you.

I just put new tires on my fancy rims, along with new metal valve stems and had them all balanced.

Why would you want new rims?

Tons of tire info with the search engine above.

But for best advice you need to list the make, model and year of your RV. Otherwise, are you asking about pop-up, regular trailer, big 5th wheel or motor home tires??

In my case I upgraded from C to D tires from Chinese to Goodyear Endurance tires. I bought the tires mounted as I was unsure of the pressure rating of my old rims and then sold the old ones that were aged out to a guy for local use to get back part of my cost.

Balancing ST trailer tires is optional, some say yes others don't bother.

My 2-cents; depends on the rims that you have. If they are bent/rusted/worn I would go for pre-mounted tires & rims just for the upgrade & then sell the old ones locally like RogerR said. There is always someone who needs a set of rims/tires just to get by.

As far as balancing them, I would always get them balanced. You wouldn't want to drive your TV without balanced tires, it would shake your fillings out! Same goes for your trailer, why subject it to all that vibrating and shaking?

In my case, the camper has steel painted rims. It was wasn't that expensive for a duplicate set of wheels I bought online, and easier for me. I bought the tires online and had them mounted locally. Put them on at my leisure.

If there is a drawback it's that I have an old set of wheels and tires now. I want to keep the wheels, but no one takes tires without paying a fee.

Discount Tire, or similar. Go in and buy your tires. They do the install. If you want different rims they will have them or can order. Simple as that.

And they will take care of the left over tires and rims.
