Tongue Box Question / Battery Security
Does anyone know what is supposed to go on these welded rails on the front of my trailer? I am the second owner and I am thinking the previous owner maybe kept a tool box or something?
Also, some jerk just stole my battery. Any suggestions on a good way to secure it and or the propane tanks too?? I have the tanks that are behind the pop out panel. Maybe there is a lock for this panel?
Thanks for any help in advance!
2012 Jayco 314BDS.

I have no advice on how to secure the battery (though there are metal straps commercially available), I just take mine with me when the trailer is in storage (the only time I feel there is a risk of it growing legs). This way I can keep it charged in my garage at home, and the potential to grow legs is eliminated.
As for the other tray, I believe that would be the tray for the propane tanks if the trailer didn't have them behind the nose. Many of these frames (from what I understand) are mass produced and service several different trailer models.

Welcome to the forum.
My best guess is the other owner had a small triangle tool box or battery box in that spot.
Please include your trailer model. Someone may have a similar unit and be of more help.

Thanks for the replies. The welds look factory so did they maybe have it as an option? If so I would like to find one. I have a 2012 Jayco 314BDS.

you should be able to obtain a copy of the 2012 brochure from jayco's site or google it The brochure will show you what was standard and optional equipment for your year and model.

I'm with Camper, prolly for propane tanks (don't see anyplace else for em). I bought a second batt box which sat on the floor just inside the door. Batt went there while TT was stored. I put the box in the garage (home) while traveling. I figured the box kept the batt from sitting directly on the floor.

Good chance there is enough room for another battery box in the front tray.
Some folks use the following strap-lock for locking down there battery boxes:
B & D RV Battery Lock For RV travel trailers and popup campers.

The tanks on OP's trailer are behind a little hatch in the front of the trailer. You can just barely see them in the picture up under there.
The reason for my assumption is that another user on the forum found the rack that OP's tanks are sitting on (because his tanks are on the rack up front) and decided it was a great place to put a set of batteries; tucked up under the camper nice and neat.
So I'm assuming that the frames are produced with racks in BOTH locations, and the factory just installs the tanks wherever they're supposed to be for that particular model. Then the frames can be standard parts and mass produced quickly, and the trailers can be assembled quickly without having to modify the frame for alternatively located propane or battery racks.
My GMC was this way. It was a 1/2T gas 5.3L model, and had a second battery tray in the engine bay. Of course there was no reason a 1500 gasser would ever need a 2nd battery, it was a holdover from the diesel trucks. Standardization of parts saves a lot of time and money for manufacturers.

It is for a second battery
It is for a second battery. Size 24 battery case fits perfectly. The lower tray fits a size 27 battery case. When I went from 2 size 24 to 2 size 27 batteries I cut out a forward section of the tray so that it would fit the size 27 battery case. (See my other post for picture of where I cut the section of the tray out)
