Tongue dry weight

When they say for my ordered Jayflight 29rks dry tongue weight 800 pounds , what should I expect ready to camp with minimal amount of water in the tank , over 1000 ? I would like to keep my Equalizer 4 10000/1000 and save a 500 bucks but hey if I have too....

My 29RKS had an unloaded Jayco weight sticker (w/ full propane) on side of trailer of 7400 lbs. The factory tongue wt was listed at 815 lbs. After a trip to the Cat scales, trailer loaded with 10 gal fresh water, a little food, clothing, kitchen essentials, and misc camping supplies, the trailer weighed in at 8100 lbs and the hitch tongue weight was 1200 lbs. I use an Equalizer 10,000 / 1000 hitch and it tows fine and virtually no sway issues. 2018 Ford F-250, Super Duty diesel w/ camper - tow pkg.

My weights are similar to jbrnigan's and I have the same Equalizer brand 10,000/1,000 hitch. I've had no problems with it.

Thanks a million guys, 1200 is a bit more than what I was expecting but like both of you Ill give it a try with the WDH I have now, 200 over the limit should not cause any issue I would think ..thanks again

Tongue weight should be close to 15% trailer weight, correct? If not you should rearrange cargo so it is.

The faster you are driving, the higher tongue weight you need for stability. I am trying to keep the tongue weight around 10-11%, but I am towing on cruise control 60 mph.

WDH and RV manufactures recommend a range of 10% to 15% of gross weight.., but many have found with the heavy/longer TT's 13% to 15% enhances TV handling especially in less then ideal towing conditions (wind, sudden maneuvers, etc.).

Different TV suspensions and/or towing conditions could influence the degree of effect (TV/TT porpoising, etc.) of exceeding specified WDH spring bar limits. The most obvious effect would be a gradual decline in the ability of the spring bars to "maintain" expected weight transfer to the TV's front suspension..., again, especially in less then ideal towing conditions.

I recently bent my E2 1000 lb bars. 1120 lbs on the tongue. Worked for 5 years with my Silverado but my new F150 is more bouncy (need to upgrade tires and maybe shocks) and that bent them. Got 1200 pounders for the next trip.

Good lord! That is a lot of tongue weight. Of course I have a smaller trailer...can't imagine.
