Tongue Jack

I have a 2015 Jayco with an electric tongue jack. This last winter I noticed the little work light was on, but the switch was in the off position. I had to remove the batteries to turn the light off. Any suggestions?

Short in the switch would be my guess. Water, corrosion, etc?

Same here, Dog. I haven't fixed it yet. We are in the same neighborhood, so I am sure it is all of the rain we have had this winter. Put a bucket over it upside down to protect it.

Does the light get brighter when you switch it to the 'on' position? It may be that a circuit has a bad ground and is going through the bulb on the jack.

IIRC, someone posted about the same problem recently. Maybe that person will respond soon.

That's exactly what it is. That happened to us last summer, the light was on when the switch was off, but it was very dim. I had to take the cover off and clean the contacts on the switch. A wire brush and a little dielectric grease does wonders. I made a "sock" with a drawstring out of an old piece of tarp to cover the jack when not in use.

Part of the switch is moulded into the jack housing, so be careful if you take it apart, but it isn't difficult.

I use an old Adco RV cover bag to cover my jack. It's just large enough to squeeze the hitch and batteries under as well.
