When delivering trailers for Jayco, I checked the trailer lug nuts after the first 50mi. Plus, every morning I checked the trailer lug nuts and tire pressures for the TT and TV.

I know I should google this and not ask but I like giving knowledgeable guys a grin.....when I asked, my dealer said mine was torqued at 100 ft. lbs. So if I buy the proper tools (which sounded pretty darn complicated from these posts), am I actually going to have to put 100 lbs of pressure on it?

2 foot handle and 50lbs gives you 100 ft lbs. 3 foot handle and 33.3lbs gives you 100 ft lbs.

Torque is moment (distance from fulcrum) times weight.

100 lbs at the end of a 1 foot lever
(not the usual situation) 100lbs * 1ft = 100ft/lbs of torque

50 lbs at the end of a 2 foot lever
(this is about the length of a torque wrench) = 50lbs * 2ft = 100ft/lbs of torque

You don't have to measure the torque wrench length or measure the pounds you put on it. The torque wrench measures the torque.

I check mine on each end of all trips. There is a lot of heat generated by the brakes on a trailer and with alloy wheels againts cast iron drums the heat cycles will effect the tightness.
