We just got a new White Hawk 25BHS trailer. the first time backing it in the drive, we had to cut it so sharply the torsion bar popped off. Is there a problem with taking the torsion bars off before backing it in? Or do we just have to learn to get it in somehow with a different angle? Or was the torsion bar just not latched properly?

It may not have been latched properly. There is nothing wrong with taking them off to back into the driveway or a campsite. I don't take mine off and haven't had one pop off and I've made some pretty sharp backing maneuvers.

When to or not remove. Near jack-knife would require removal. Most should hold up to that point if installed correct.

I would guess that it was not installed properly. When backing into your driveway loosen the bars first.. and remove any sway control.. it will actually help you back in.

Torsion bar? Are you referring to the spring vast for the weight distributing hitch or the friction sway control?

The spring bars shouldn't pop out of their brackets at any angle, and the friction sway control shouldn't be an issue if it's properly installed. We need some more details about the hitch, the setup, and the failure.

The Equal-i-zer brand WDH has the weight distribution spring bars resting on L-brackets. If the L-brackets were improperly installed (too far away from the ball), it's possible a sharp turn going either forward or backward could slide the bar off the L-bracket.
