Total Loss

A few words of advice.
"Don't haul when it's snowing"

Last Sunday on our way to Florida for 2 months we flipped our new trailer going 40 MPH in a snow squall on I-75. Didn't make it 50 miles from home and swoosh!!

Thank God no serious injuries- just banged up a bit. Adjuster just called and said the trailer will be scrapped. My Ram truck will need an evaluation at the dealer.

Been trailering all over the U.S. and Eastern half of Canada and never had a problem. Guess it was my time.

So beware and drive careful my friends...

Very sorry to hear about that. The positives are no one was hurt and you were close to home when it happened. Best of luck.

I am glad you are safe and no one was hurt!

Snow seems like bad news to tow in (said the native, Coastal Californian), but it can happen in what we might call faultless conditions...it's why they are called accidents.

I managed to flip a trailer at 60 MPH in perfect conditions on a bright Sunday morning on I-80 near Berkeley, CA about 10 years ago..I too had towed all over the US without a problem but it still happened. Our trailer broke apart on the freeway when it was righted, so it was a total loss. The van got shoved into the center divider and the fender and bumper got a little "ground down", but I was able to drive it home after theose parts were "removed" (torn off actually by the wrecker). That's what made me get a Hensley Hitch for our next TT.

Bill, thank goodness everyone is ok. Sorry your Florida plans were ruined. Stupid winter. I know you have a lot on your mind, but I was curious if you had considered coming back to Jayco?

Sorry to hear about the accident, but the good thing is no serious injuries. TT and TV can always be replaced, but it is a sad day nonetheless.

Great you all escaped serious injuries and that you were so close to home. Look at this as an opportunity to replace the camper with one that has all the things you promised you'd get next time. And hopefully a chance to get a Ford! LOL

Not sure yet. If we do I think the new 338RETS is the one I like best. really like that floor plan.

Tired of the floor plan. We wanted a 3 slide larger trailer. Jayco stopped making the unit I wanted in 2012. So we bought the Cougar. Then they turned around and started back with a 2014- 338RETS which was what I wanted, in the first place. We'll see.

Actually it is quite simple. We hit a patch of "black ice" under the new fallen snow. I felt the steering go limp and then saw out of my side view mirror the trailer swinging around me. The trailer swung my 3/4 ton Dodge Ram around like it was a toy. When the trailer broke loose it flipped on it's side blocking 2 lanes of I-75. The truck slammed up against the cement railing. The State Police later reported 8 different accidents in a 1 mile stretch of that section. I was going 40 MPH in the right lane when it happened.
