Tow set up question

I pull my Jay Feather Ultra Lite X23B with a CrewMax 4x4 Tundra so that's no problem.

As part of my deal, I got the weight distribution bars and a Husky anti-sway ratchet type bar. It's all great but a chore to set up/take down.

My question is this: Is it really necessary to rig all that up to tow it around in town? Or maybe just up a local highway to a favorite lake?

Can I just do well with hooking up the ball?

Thanks!

I pull a dual axle enclosed motorcycle trailer without a WDH, and it pulls fine. But every trailer/truck setup is different in how it follows or how the truck handles the weight.

Depends. The purpose of WD is to put weight back on the front wheels to regain the lost control you get when the trailer is dropped on the hitch. You could put it on and drive it a little and see how the steering control feels. In my experience even a little weight removed from the front wheels makes for a scary drive at anything close to highway speeds. But you have to decide for yourself how what your comfort level is. It takes me less than 10 minutes to hook p or remove my W/D hitch. I don't hesitate to use it.

Thank you guys for the advice. And I agree I'm probably just whining about the hook up hassle.

From the YouTube videos I've watched, trailer control is definitely something to take seriously!

The only time I didn't use the WDH on our old hybrid was to and from the storage yard, which about 10 minutes from home through low-speed regional streets -- I never went faster than about 30 mph. Any other time, the hitch was used. I explained to DW once how everything connects and what it's for, and it occurred to me that about three quarters of what I'm hooking up is safety related, and safety is never a hassle.
