towing heavy off road

Hey guys and girls,

I am looking at upgrading my current Jayco unit that weighs approximately 10,000 lbs loaded and is 31 feet long over all, the new trailer i am considering has a max gross weight of 14,000 lbs and is 38 feet long.

I have never pulled this much weight behind a pick up and it has me a bit concerned.

My biggest concern is how it will act on bush roads,99% of the camping i do is up in the sticks as far away from people as i can get.

The tow vehicle is a 2016 gmc 3500 diesel.

Appreciate any input you guys have regarding on the pavement and off

cheers

First of all, welcome to the forum.

We are boondocking almost every weekend with our Jayco. Our regular spot is over a mile back in a dirt logging road that is somewhat rough in spots. Now keep in mind that our trailer weighs is at just a tick over 5000# so we really can't compare the experiences. But, if you take it easy, you should be OK. But that is a lot of weight and a lot of stress on hitch parts, suspension parts, etc.

I agree. If you take is slow and easy and watch the trailer going around corners you should be ok.

Only thing I could add is make sure the roads are dry or at least have a good bottom. 18,000 pounds (truck and trailer) is a lot to get stuck.
