Question Trade in value of our JayFlight Baja

HI all....we have finished our first season travelling for work in Western Canada in our 21ft Jayco Jayflight. We have decided we have to change our tow vehicle and upgrade to a 5th wheel. We have ordered an F450 so we can better manage driving in the winds on the Prairies. And we have spoken to our sales rep at Traveland RV in BC to get our rig traded in and the value applied to a 5th wheel. In our travels last year we met many people who recco'd the Grand Design brand. So we have chosen a 5th Wheel Reflection 303 RLS model. Gives us office room, more space to move around etc. My reason for this post is that our sales rep has offered us just $20K for our year old RV . I bet he could sell it for way more than that in this hot market. We paid approx $40K for it. We are having trouble with his offer. Is this usually what happens? This rig is only one year old. Comments welcomed.

I had a 2017 264bh? it was used about 6 weeks total in less than 2 years. Was still under factory warranty. Dealer would only give me 10,000. I had spent 22,000 with extended warranty and taxes etc. Half is probably a dealer standard maybe.

You can look up the year and model on NADA.com, and KBB.com in their RV sections. These are only a guide, and the values will change as the market changes. That may give you a better idea to the trade in and retail prices for your RV, and may allow for some inclusion of your optional equipment.

Why don’t you just sell it yourself.

And BTW, 5th wheels depreciate the fastest.

Also, consider there are two prices at work here. The new unit and the old unit. The dealer can move money back and forth pretty easily but it doesn't really help you unless you owe on the old unit. They can give you five thousand more on your trade and add five thousand to the price of the new 5er. Obviously you want max on your old unit and min on the new one. The dealer wants the opposite.

They will mark your old one up to sell it. You will always get more selling it yourself.

Dealer will give you low blue book for your trade no matter how you fixed it up and took care of it. New trailer he will want to get the highest money he can for it. Traded in a 2011 Jayco bungalow for a 2018 Jayfeather. Got 13000 trade in value even though it had a new Toilet. New shower, and new solar screens on the inside of the trailer. But when he sols it he told people who were looking at it that all this stuff was new and the price reflects it. Can't win sometimes.
