If you leave out the pin, doesn't that cause a lot of current draw from the battery and result in heated brake magnets and connecting wires? Any chance that could cause additional damage?

well it wouldn't be good for either ... I accidently had mine out for a whole weekend one time not knowing it was pulled when I disconnected. didn't realize it until we hooked up to head home and it wouldn't move . the camper was plugged in to electric all weekend but I didn't feel or see any damage to system but I wouldn't think it would be good for the brake system. check it and make sure you have one plugged in to it ... I check mine everytime I connect and disconnect now
