Trailer Dimensions

Does anyone know if the length for trailers on the Jayco website just refers to the length of the trailer itself or includes the hitch portion as well? I have a 2019 28BHS, but no access to it right now and can't seem to find the answer to that. Website shows it's 33'2", but doesn't state if that includes the tongue. Any help would be very much appreciated.

The 33'2" should be overall length including tongue.

I think the "28" portion of your model number is the length of the box, and the 33 and change then includes bumper, maybe spare tire if mounted on the bumper, and front tip of the tongue. Somebody pls. correct me if I'm wrong, thanks.

That's exactly what I would've expected, but I've found far too often the number of the model doesn't match the size. Once I get my trailer back from the shop I'll have to measure it and I'll report back. It would be great if that's how it actually works.

That sounds very close. If you were to put a tape measure to it, It may be 28' and a few inches give or take. Our TT model number is 19RD, and Jayco calls it 23'. The actual body length is 19'7".

JAYCO will tell you that the number does not necessarily match the box length. They stress that when you take the factory tour.

Thanks, Grumpy. At least it appears we're perhaps all in agreement that the length figure in the specs is for overall length including bumper and tongue, thus it should be useful for determining just how long of a storage space, or a camp site parking space, is needed to accommodate the trailer.

I was thinking of buying a cover and asked the parts person if they have a 27’ cover because I have a “27BHS”. He told me not to go by model number. I went home and my box is 28’4”
Grumpy is absolutely right
My total length is 31’8”

Damn that would have sucked for you. Very good to know though. Once the dealership finally fixes my awning (5th time in the shop for the same exact thing) I'll have it back and will be able to measure the trailer itself. I've thought about buying a cover for my trailer if I was able to park it on the side of my home because of this harsh Arizona sun, but damn HOA ruined those hopes. Now I get to pay for storage

Yes that would have been bad because the one I thought would fit said TT sizes 24’-27’. That’s why parts guy said to measure.
My friend has a very nice home in a nice neighborhood but it’s also a HOA. He isn’t even allowed a small shed for a lawnmower. Now that’s just too much freedom to give up for me!

Total Overall Length; is overall end to end length.

I looked up my tt and it correlates to what I have measured.

Usually I think the number in front of the model refers to the livable area..
Length.
Like ours 23RLS is 23 livable and 27 approx bumper to the end of the hitch

The length given is the length from front of hitch to the bumper.

The only one I know for sure is my J Flight 23RB. I have a copy of the Certificate of Origin which is sent with each new trailer from Jayco to the dealer. This certificate is used by the dealer when he sends in the paper work to your DMV. The original title is made from this certificate.

For my trailer, which is the only RV I ever bought new, the CofO give the dimensions as 326" (27' 2") long, 280" (23' 4") box length, 96" (8') wide, with a total living area of 187 sq ft.

Our model # begins with 28. The box measures 31+ feet, 33 feet to the back of the bumper and ladder.

28BHS refers to 28' inside box length, BHS refers to bunk house slide. 33.6 refer to total exterior length including rear bumper to point of hitch, possibly spare tire.

It seems with everything, for storage or campsite length. What ever the model number is, add four and a half feet to get overall length. give or take an inch or two.

Our 23rb Jayco Jayflight is 23' long for the "house" but the length from rear to the front of the hitch is about 27'.

Hope that helps.

My wife and I just purchased a 2020 Jayco 29RKs. The cab living area is over 30"long . So I would physically measure it. We are selling our 2009 Glacier Edge 24BHS and it is not a 24' but in fact it is just under 28" cab length. Cheers and good luck
