Travel map, what counts

This is minor compared to a lot of threads here but.... I bought a travel map for my trailer to show what states we've visited. I am a first time trailer owner since April of 2015.

We have camped in Indiana (home), We've camped in New Jersey (previous home) at campsites, but while travelling stayed in Wal Marts in Ohio and Pennsylvania.

I wouldn't count those walmarts, I would only count camping destinations. Curious how others decide to put that state sticker on the map. What are your guidelines.

Thanks

I used to keep one and we set a criteria of spending at least night in the camper in that state. We got tired of it after a few years and got rid of it.

I don't think there are any hard and fast rules on it.

I may just fill all mine in and save myself some money! LOL

Similar to Norty, we only fill in the states if we've spent a night there in the camper. We also have a set of state magnets that we keep on the fridge, and we add one of those for every state we've driven through.

Friends of ours have a map and they add a state once they've either slept there or stopped for a meal.

My daughter insists that her stepping over the line at the Hoover dam from Nevada into Arizona counts!

Counting coup is a very personal matter.

The filled in map is just a mnemonic for every hurdle you know you've cleared. It can be a ship's log of every place you've been or just the significant events. Once you decide what it is to you, be faithful to that standard.

My personal claim-to-fame is that I have never traveled further west than Niagara Falls.

I would think if you were in that state with your RV it counts. It represents states you were in.

During my working years I traveled a lot. I had a U.S. map on the wall at home (still do, different home) and if I landed in a state I put a W for Work Related on the map. If personal travel, it got a V for visit. Over the years the number of Ws went to 37. Of course, some states had both letters, some just one. Total so far is 48, lacking Maine and Alaska. Alaska will get a V next September.

So when we bought our first trailer in Chicago, Illinois got on my Camper map even though we didn't spend the night in that trailer until we hit Iowa. I consider it a "wheels were there" map, not a "where we slept" map. Just my personal preference.

Passing through counts as a state visited which is what I use the map for.
