Cool Trickle charging from 110 outlet on Jayco 2016 284BHBE

Hi,

We have a Jayco 2016 284BHBE. If I plug it into a 110 outlet for long periods of time, will this trickle charge the battery?

Hi and welcome to the forum.

Yes. Using an adapter, you'll have to plug in to your 30 (or 50) amp trailer plug and have your main and converter switches on. If you check with a voltmeter, you should measure around 13.5-13.9 volts at the battery.

Your TT has a smart charging feature, which said, will keep the battery charged without cooking it dry, like a regular charger that's left on for a long time. It cycles through three stages, and maintains the battery just like a Battery Tender. You should still check the acid level periodically.

You have a three stage charger. It will full charge your battery. I have heard it will take 8 to 24 hours to full charge the battery.

Wow, three answers in the same minute. Couldn't do that again if we tried!

I wanted to keep my camper plugged in to avoid removing the battery. But I did not like the idea of continuous trickle charge. So I purchased a light timer that had enough wattage and set it to keep power on for about 1/2 hour per day. This worked out well for me and saved some electricity and use of the converter.

I put my batteries in the garage for the winter and use a Deltran Battery Tender.

Would this be true for the 2016 Jayco White Hawks as well?
In cold climates (upstate NY) would it be better to pull the battery andbstore it in a basement hooked to a battery tender?
Thanks in advance!
Tom

Just something I do. I pull the battery after winterizing ( along with battery from Goldwing) and put them both down cellar, hook up a Battery Tender, and switch it over to the bike battery about every month or so. Don't know if it's better, I just don't want to take a chance on a frozen (read "needs replacing") battery. Goes for any kind of camper/M/C/lawnmower battery.

Is this true for a Class C MH as well? (I know where the man power switch is, but don't have a clue as to where the converter switch might be.)

Thanks!

Sorry. I can't be certain about your class C. However, the class B MH we owned until we bought our TT had a 'house' battery and engine starting battery. It had a circuit breaker panel with switches for the converter, electric water heater, etc. When plugged in, it charged the 'house' battery with a 'smart' charger.

If you create a topic regarding your specific vehicle, someone in the JOF may have a better answer for you.

If you install a battery disconnect switch, it is amazing how long a battery will stay almost 100% charged. If you don't have a disconnect then you will have parasitic drains on your battery all the time.

The converter is On when the generator is running or the plugged in. The converter supplies 12 volts for all lights, fridge, water heater, etc. If it were not running about the only thing that might work is the AC and 120 volt outlets. Most all converters include a charger for the motorhome batteries.
