Trunnion Style Hitch
My neighbor gave me a trunnion style weight distribution hitch. I have never used this kind of system. I did notice the bolts that goes through the trunnions and on through the bars are loose. There is a lock washer behind the nylock nuts but the nut doesn't even touch the lock washers. Is there a torque number for these two bolts, or are they suppose to be loose as I cannot find any info with regards to these two bolts. Thanks in advance for any info you might have.

Yes sir, it says it is a Fastway e2 and on the bars it has stamped 1200. I checked Fastways site but it didn't say anything about these bolts, and neither did etrailers site.

Are those bolts #13 in the parts listing? If so they normally have some play in them. There is no torque spec on them, they just hold the bar on the trunion knuckle to prevent them from sliding off. On the similar Equalizer hitch, the same connection is made with a clevis pin.

Thanks Bob for your responses, and the manual link. The bolt threads are 1 thread past the end of the nut. Do you think it would be ok to screw the bolt in a bit more?

You did not post the model trailer you are going to pull. If you have a small trailer like a 195rb the bars are over-sized. If you are pulling a very big one it could be undersized.
Include the year and model of your RV and vehicle for better advice in the future.

Roger, I pull with a 2016 Chevrolet Silverado 2500 HD with 6.0 engine and 4.10 gears.

You can if you want. The nylock nut keeps the bolt from falling out, not torque. There is no side pressure on those bolts. The only force on those bolts is lateral force, just like the hitch pin that hold your hitch in the receiver.....well, with far less lateral force.
