my problem is that I almost never use the radio and when I do it takes me a couple of hours reading the manual just to understand the buttons and how to tune a station. Would be real nice if they just installed a basic radio/player in a TT. Most of us are not planning on giving a concert.

Installing a 12v switch to cut off the radio is on my list of things to do this summer. I am also installing a cigarette lighter plug and USB charging ports with a separate cutoff as part of this project.

This is not completely true. Yes, it turns off the display lighting which does reduce power consumption but the radio holds it's memory for clock, presets, bluetooth pairings, etc... so there is still some, although minimal power consumption occurring.

I thought this worked too. Then, as I'm towing I get a phone call. Answer on Bluetooth and can't hear the caller. The trailer picked up the call. This is after holding the power button, and unit appearing to be off.
