tv antenna is up...hand crank doesnt seem to want to turn in "down" direction

Just noticed the antenna is up...never turned the hand crank and don't think my bride would have touched this

my jayflight is new, other than towing it home from the dealership I haven't towed it anywhere, first trip is over memorial day weekend

so dumb question...is there another way to raise this or is the white crank on the ceiling the only way?

And, I didn't want to force it, but it felt like it wouldn't turn in the "down" direction...

what gives?

Can't believe the dealer let you leave the lot with the antenna in the UP position. I'm sure they will claim it was down also. That is the only way to raise it and lower it to my knowledge. If you can get on the roof, make sure nothing is blocking its path down and maybe have your better half try to crank it down while you put a little pressure on it, not much though. If that doesn't work, a trip to the dealer may be in order. You also want to make sure the arrows or indicators are lined up inside on the cranking mechanism so it will sit nicely in the downed position.

I really didn't put much force on the crank...is it a very easy turn or does it require a little torque...

Is the rotational pointer in the store position? Mine is a little hard to get started but then comes down easy after that..

I will have to look...noticed it on way to work...been sitting in my drive way for 3 weeks and this is the first Ive noticed it LOL

omg I am an idiot...the antenna that I was referring to is a long thin pole, for the radio I ASSUME...so this is always extended?

for petes sake I need to relax and drink a beer...lol...this weekend...first trip...lots of beer

Yes. Thats the radio antenna and it is always extended.

Its better to ask .... knowledge is power especially since the manual that comes with the trailer says very little.

yes...if all my learning experiences are as painless (if not a bit embarrassing) as this, I am GOOD TO GO! lol

when towing a 6000lb behemoth 200+ miles one way to live in for 4-10 days, it IS best to be as prepared as possible...my wife is laughing at me...

Good information for anyone to know.. I am sure you felt like an a** when you realized it was the radio antenna sticking up. It should also have a spring at the bottom so that it is able to bend if you encounter any low hanging branches etc.


Don't feel bad about your question as I am sure others have had the same experience. These type of post also tend to help others and this is what the forum is for.


I have a saying that I have used many time "The only dumb/stupid question is the ones that aren't asked". And asking a question or making a mistake is normal and is how we learn and may save some expensive repairs.

Now you got me wondering what crank you was working with.

Does your trailer have the crank-up type TV antenna. It may have come with a roof mounted uni-directional type antenna that doesnt crank up.


The all around best antenna for HDTV looks like this google photo when cranked up.


You might want to try all of this out before you head out on your trip. Using the BATWING antenna for picking up OTA NATL BROADCAST TV is more to it than just cranking up the antenna and turning on the TV set. I would try all of this out in the driveway to learn what you need to to do...

We did everything in the driveway first. Even camped out there for a few nights learning what all we needed to have to make things work...

Still sleep over night in the back yard alot actually haha...

I do have a crank up tv antenna...not sure the make...I mistook the fm antenna for the crank up...ugh

if we watch tv...and that's a big if...its movies...we might use cable hook up but doubtful

Cranking the antenna down when it's already down, would in fact require extra force and torque. SORRY, I could resist.

We've all done that kind of stuff, laugh about it and drink a beer.
