Type of jack.

Have Jayco 166FBS. Need to know type of jack to use bottle or floor. If bottle what ton. Also jack placement. Frame behind the axle or the axle itself. Thank you Phil from Detroit

My similar trailer by HR suggests the frame as the jack point, not the axle. Many people will use the axle though. I have a 8 ton bottle jack that I keep in the truck. Have used it many times on the truck, but never jacked the trailer yet. I carry some blocks of wood to use to increase the jack height if needed. You could also use the lego leveling blocks I guess, assuming they can support ~1 ton.

Great minds think alike! I just used my 4 ton bottle jack on my 166fbs. Raised the camper ok but the small base and head made me nervous from a tipping standpoint so went out and bought a 12 ton.

You should never Jack the trailer by the axle tube. I carry a 10 ton bottle jack and some cribbing. Admittedly 10 ton jack is overkill but I already owned it. I place the jack under the frame either just in front of or just behind either axle. I can get enough lift to remove both tires with that placement.

Never lift a trailer by the axle. Lift on the frame, just forward or rear of the axle.

As for a jack. I like a bottle jack, as it is small in size, easy to stow.. As for size, my recommendation, get one that is rated to lift the total weight of the camper. In reality your only lifting one side, so 1/2 of the weight. But I can tell you it takes a lot less arm force using the larger jack, especially when in an awkward position. If your trailer is 4 tons, get atleast a 4 ton jack. Bigger, in this case can be better, until you reach 12+ ton size.
