Underbelly

We went to pick up our new 29rlds and noticed that the underbelly has two large square openings that have been taped back in place and tape already hanging off. When asked we were told those are access panels in case they need to get to things. Our 25rks was solid with no openings. This does have the thermal package and "enclosed" underbelly.

Anyone else have this experience? Haven't seen these "access" points on other campers.

My 2016 Eagle 29.5 BHDS has them. Or at least 1 of them, might have 2, haven't been under there in a while.

In many cases they cover the area for accessing a slide motor...., in case one has to manually open/close the slide.

The black "tape" Jayco uses has been known to peel back but there should still be a few screws holding the access panel in place.

Also, check the black tape (sometimes white) along the outer top edge of the slide roof (covers EPDM trim screws)...., I've seen new units on dealership lots with the tape peeling back during delivery.

Access to what? The only reason the underbelly would be cut on a new trailer is to do a repair on something I would think. Mine had a section cut out but the patch was larger and screwed to wood backer. Nothing for normal access was behind it. I've since cut another hole to get at a bolt that had worked loose under the flooring.

I have an "Access Panel" also, it is where I access the slide motor. BUT, they are screwed in. NOT Taped.
What PlayersZ28 stated about only being cut if someone worked on it or did a repair isn't necessarily true. My access panel was like that from the factory. But, it was screwed in, not taped.

If the tape doesn't stick it means they didn't clean proper, I use thinner for cleaning and gorilla tape.
It is pretty normal to have access doors in the Chloroplast. (better than removing the whole underbelly).

I have one access point and it is to access the slide motor to manually retract the slide if it fails. Mine came this way from the dealer. The cover is larger than the opening and held by screws. But not enough. I added more...

After two years, our slide was making a noise. Dealer stated it was from lack of lubrication. They had to cut two square holes under slide mech to correct and add lubricant. The tape has been holding up ok.

The dealer says they will put a piece of plywood over the area and screw it in. I said that's all well and good, but plywood will just rot and draw insects. Not happy at all with the quality of this brand new built for us unit.

My 2017 27.5rkds has an " inspection " hole also. It is where I would access the main slide motor in order to retract manually. Mine has 1x2's around the edges with the cut out piece screwed to the 1x2's. Perhaps your dealer could do the same or insist on treated plywood.

My underbelly material was cut to allow the drain pipes. They tried to seal this back with just foam type sealing. Needless to say this did not really work (see my other thread). The dealer gave me a black ‘tape’ that he would use to seal it. So apparently tape is used. The tape came from Jayco and would be used for warranty work

The cut-outs are about 16" x 24" and 16" x 12". The usual pipe cut-outs are there, but foamed up pretty well. Just don't like the idea of such large "access" cut-outs, but then again, I really have no choice about it at this point.

Thanks for all of the info!
