Up on the roof.

I would like to replace the vent lid on my 2002 24FB and install Maxx Air vent cover. This trailer does not have a ladder. I weigh about 260 lbs. and do NOT like heights but I may be able to talk myself into this IF the roof was designed to support weight. The old roof appears to be in very good shape for the age. Any advice would be much appreciated. Thanks in advance, Dave

I was told that if an RV did not have a permanent ladder, then the roof may not be designed to be walked on.

All current Jayco's have a walkable roof. The ladder is an option on my trailer. I'm not sure if a 2002 Jayco had a walkable roof or not. Might want to contact your local dealer to inquire.

Our trailer does not have a ladder, but is walkable. You may want to confirm with the mfr. I have been on ours a couple of times. It is an odd feeling walking up there. I took off my boots and got on the roof in my sock feet. i figured the socks would be more forgiving vs my boots to the roof material. I will be on ours again this spring to seal the seams.

First off you do not replace the vent lid you put this cover over it...
next at 260 if you walk softly it should be OK but I would look at taking up a 3X8' sheet of plywood to distribute your weight over a greater area.. and becarefull with your tools up there rubber roofs puncture easily.

I just spent 2 hours on mine cleaning it. I bet cleaning a rubber roof you couldn't walk would be a real challenge. Here is what Jayco has to says about there roof truss system.

Thanks to everyone for your replies. I do plan to call Jayco to ask but I believe that since you need to be up there for care of the roof that , at least when new, it was designed to be walkable. Again I appreciate all the replies. Hopefully sometime in the future I will be able to pass on some knowledge I have from my working life that may help someone here on the Forum, Dave

Last year, Camping World offered $30 installation for anything you purchased at their store or E-store - if you have a Good Sam membership. The membership isn't very expensive, and it gives you a discount on product purchases that will likely pay for itself after only a couple of purchases.

Don't know if they still have this offer, but it might be looking into . . . especially if climbing on the roof would bother you.

Problem is that his TT is a 2002. It's probably a flat roof not a crowned roof. I had a 2007 17 Export and it was a flat roof. I'm not sure when Jayco started building TT with the crowned roofs. The flat roofs were not the magnum truss system. All I know is when I wanted to walk on the roof of our 2007, it flexed a lot. It made me real nervous to walk on.
